New to the boards/one case picking at my brain - Curt Borton Jr. - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

hi all,
i've been reading these for awhile now, and finally decided to join b/c of one particular case that has always made me wonder. Does anyone remember the case of the soldier who went "missing" in vietnam, and was then presumed dead. I remember the recreation saying that his parents never believed the army's story about what happened, and when they saw his records, much of it was redacted (blacked out). Then his sister or something swore she saw him at a gas station as if he was trying to find her.
Never heard anything about it again, and was just wondering if anyone out there had any more info on the topic. Thanks

Welcome to the boards, GaryJ106. You'll find these boards very informational, many of the posters here are familiar with just about every segment shown on Unsolved Mysteries.

As for the segment you're asking about, I always thought it was strange that the sister never approached her missing brother. Was she that afraid of him? The sister said she was afraid to approach him because she was with her children...he didn't seem threatening to me! If my memory is correct, she saw him on two separate occasions. The first time was at the gas station and second time was at the "Vietnam Wall" at Washington DC.

This sounds like a great case, I don't recall it. Has CD added it to any of her volumes? I can't imagine possibly spotting my missing presumed dead brother, and not approaching him!!! That's crazy, not once but TWICE!

ahh yes
now i remember the part about seeing him at the vietnam wall as well. I also remember something about his parents being given the runaround by the army when they went to a local army office (i think) in order to try and find out what had really happened. I just remember it as being very odd that he was at both locations when they happened to be there. I think he was/is definately alive, and perhaps didn't approach her for fear of being watched himself. As I recall while reading the brad bishop discussion earlier, (who incidentally lived close to somewhere i worked) it is bvery possible to recognize someone who you haven't seen in a long time in a public place. The fact that he may have sought his sister not once but twice has always been intriguing to me. Maybe he was part of some special government project.

thank you very very much, I now am able to piece together the story lol.

I remember now the significant portions being when his family first saw his picture displayed in the newspaper, and of course the sightings.
Personally I do not believe that Borton is deceased. If he was, why would a person who looks so much like him seem to follow his sister wherever she moves. I would sure like to see an ultimate resolution for his family that tells them one way or the other what for sure happened. What a cool story.

what follows is an update relating to the "remains found" from a purported family member that I found on a website:

We absolutely did not accept his remains. They went to my sisters and brother and even my nieces and nephews trying to get them to accept the so called remains which by the way was only a handful of teeth. But no one in our family would accept this as proof. We were all definately united on this. As far as I know the teeth are still sitting in a warehouse at Edwards Air Force base. They told us that all that was in the gravesite were these teeth. When I asked them where the rest of the remains were they tried to tell us that grave robbers stole the rest. I said now wait a minute let me get this straight... These grave robbers took the rest of the remains after taking time to pull the teeth from the jawbone and place them back in the grave. Some how I don't quite buy this story. Call me cynical or dim if you will but this story doesn't hold water much less proof of Curt's demise.

They are in such a rush to close all cases of anyone who would dare to contradict them. Curt is still MIA and will be until there is more conclusive evidence to the contrary.

I am sorry if the tone of this is angry or negative but their audacity of trying to get people to accept a handful of teeth as evidence makes me so angry that they think that the American people are that stupid or niave.

We haven't discussed this case very much on the board. This was one of my favorite cases when I was a kid, but the more I think about it, the more something seems "off" to me about the family. There's just one too many near-misses.

Let's take this situation for example: The dad signs a mysterious form in a grocery store parking lot but he's illiterate so he doesn't know what it says. He thinks it has something to do with his son, and maybe the gov't needs his signature to declare Curt dead (or something to that effect). If Curt truly is some kind of Black Ops guy, why on earth would they need his father's signature for anything? Why would they bother? It absolutely doesn't add up.

Also, it's very easy to say you think you've seen someone from your past if you don't actually talk to them and say, "Hey, aren't you _____?" You can't prove it wasn't them. Curt's sister didn't do that. She had some strange encounters, but there's no way she can definitively say it was or wasn't her brother. So it shall forever remain a mystery and just feeds the family's need to believe that their son/brother is alive (whether it's true or not).

Same with the Brad Bishop case. I absolutely believe the witness featured on UM in his case because he actually approached Bishop and Bishop started running. The other witnesses that claimed to see Bishop didn't actually approach him, which is why I take those sightings with a grain of salt.

I almost forgot about the strange visit from the official in the store parking lot. But again, who knows whether this will ever be solved or not. One more thing however, another theory that I don't think matches up is that he was in some sort of secret relocation program, because if he was, or if there were such a program, I highly doubt he could travel so freely.

I still think the story is one of my favorites though b/c of how interesting it was.

I've noticed that UM did many segments regarding soldiers that fought in Vietnam. Whether it's about re-uniting with an old war buddy, finding a nurse that helped with a devestating injury, or families wondering if their loved one is dead or not. I was going to list every segment, but I can't remember all of them, there are so many.

thanks for all the welcomes!...so far having quite a bit of fun with this board...especially remembering all the cases I used to watch on tv, and finding out that there are more people than just me who have investigative minds and want to know what really happenend in a lot of circumstances
