Default 'Duel' Bombs

December 28, 2007 -- ABC's "Duel" was a dud, but a sweet-natured singing competition on NBC engaged more television viewers in the week before Christmas.

None of the six editions of "Duel" that aired in prime-time for ABC last week reached more than 7.5 million viewers.

In fact, the last show on Sunday - billed as the week's climax when a Georgia nurse won a $1.7 million grand prize - was the least-watched of all, 6.2 million viewers, according to Nielsen Media Research.

I'm sorry, but Duel was just not a good show. It was boring, and the 2 episodes I watched stretched on and on - it felt like it was never going to end.

I ended up switching to Clash of the Choirs, and watched the finale, and it was actually pretty good - it wasn't great, but it was better than Duel. When it comes to NBC, they know good gameshows.

Didn't even bother to tune it in. If anything, it seemed to be on so many stations it was just a pain in the ass to get around it and find something decent to watch.

I've hardly watched any tv except football since the strike started so I don't know what's on. It looks like I haven't missed anything.

VERY boring at that. Plus, I hated when the show'd go to commercial break before announcing the correct anser . . . they did that many times. It just gets annoying. Supposedly that's supposed to make people stay tuned in, but I tuned out.

The 90-minute episodes were too slow, but if you watched the 60-minute episodes they were must fast paced...I loved those. I think we will see it return in some form. They will have to change the format a bit since this was designed for a week long stunt. It did air close to the holidays, where viewership is not too high...Clash of the Choirs did just slightly better (that was not a game show, it was a reality show)...probably because it was holiday-themed. At least the questions were intelligent on Duel unlike many game shows out there today, some don't even have questions and rely on luck (**cough Deal or No Deal, Set for Life cough**).

Trust me - you haven't! I swear "I'll Be Home For Christmas" was on almost every channel at some point, alongside reruns of EVERYTHING!

IMHO Duel was another show that proved just how idiotic ABC was to let the Millionaire contract expire

I didn't like Duel one bit. I thought the format was too slow and boring. plus Mike Greenburg didn't catch my attention as a game show host.

90 minutes of a game show is far too long. Even knocked down to an hour, every night gets ya burned out.

Plus the constant breaking before the answer, good thing I had it tivo'd. Watching it live would've been excruciating. Questions were too obscure, and the tiny text used on-screen for questions, I was often squinting and straining to read.

Plus the "bad ass" contestant strategy makes you not pull for anybody. Along with the shuffling of the faces/names/intros which went on forever. Just get to it!

Greenburg was ok, but a host is only as good as his show, and DUEL wasn't.
