LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - "The Simpsons Movie" topped the DVD sales chart in the final week before Christmas, after a colorful promotion across the United States.
In New York, the Empire State Building was turned Simpsons yellow, while pink-frosted D'oh!Nut sprinkles were handed out to workers in downtown Los Angeles. The Fox DVD was followed on the Nielsen VideoScan First Alert sales chart by "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" at No. 2 and "The Bourne Ultimatum" at No. 3, each down a notch from their debut frame. Most of the other big summer theatricals released earlier in the quarter generated strong sales in the week ended December 23, including "Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End," landing at No. 4, "Ratatouille," at No. 8, and "Shrek the Third" at No. 11. On Home Media Magazine's rental chart, "Bourne" was No. 1 for a second week, while "Simpsons" debuted at No. 2. "Bourne" generated $12.8 million in rental revenue, nearly as much as it did its first week in stores, while "Simpsons" was close behind with estimated earnings of $11.8 million.
