Default Janice can you explain to me abt that whole Big Dig in Boston?

There was a massive article in the paper today abt some thoroughfare or highway something or other that has taken years to complete...I just read the blurb and seen some pics but the article was too long and frankly, quite confusing, so I figured I could just ask you if you don't mind.

The Big Dig aka The Big Pig, lol, was a project that just wrapped up. It's a huge underground tunnel in Boston, designed to cut down on traffic. It was initially supposed to take five years and cost 4 billion, but ended up costing almost 15 billion and took over 15 years. I'm not actually in Boston much these days, as I live a few miles north in a suburb, but I used to be when I was working. It was a mess, with construction everywhere. Here's more more if you're interested. I'm just glad it's over. I was so sick of hearing about it. It was always in the news. The History Channel did an interesting hour-long show on it a couple of years ago.

Thanx for that info. 15 years!!!!!?????? That is just crazy. Thanx for that link. I never knew the History Channel did a segment on it, I will certainly look out for that. I have to watch that when it airs.

I saw that show on History Television (Canadas version of History Channel), they were bragging about how the whole thing was to be done without being a burden on the city's people or traffic, as I recall it.......sounds like that was just a load of propaganda

And you know it will do absolutely nothing to cut down on traffic. It will still be brutal driving up there(I was just up there in Oct.).

lol - you know it's big news when we've been hearing about it here too! I thought it had been some tunnel that had collasped and they had finished the repair.

There's a reason people in Massachusetts are called Mass holes. (don't worry, Janice, I don't think you're a Mass hole.)

No offense taken, Allison. I mean, Kennedy and Kerry do live here. Massachusetts is also called Taxachusetts.

Hehe, good.

I've heard the "Mass hole" thing a lot in reference to the way people drive, among other things. Hoo boy. You're a tough chick, ya know that? I've heard the "Taxachusetts" thing, as well. Luckily, you're not too far away from a no-sales-tax state, so it's all good.

Most definitely. If you really want great lobster, Maine is the place to go. It borders Mass. A lot of restaurants fly in Maine lobster.

Oh yes indeed. I had Maine lobster in Vegas and I was like, "Maine Lobster in Vegas???" The manager told me they have lobster flown in from Maine A LOT! They get their seafood from other locales as well. And it is fresh and so darn good.

I've had friends who specifically travel to Maine each year to feast on the clam chowder and lobster.
