According to The Simpsons: A Complete Guide to Our Favorite Family
(1997), Homer's full name is "Homer J. Simpson." It doesn't specify, though,
what the initial "J" stands for.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that Matt Groening picked "J" because he
was a fan of Jay Ward's Rocky & Bullwinkle cartoons; and the heroes
names were Rocket J. Squirrel and Bullwinkle J. Moose.
