Default Hanna Barbera- post Yogi Bear, Scooby Doo, Flintstones etc

in addition to their cutesy offerings, hanna barbera also produced the pirates of dark water, jonny quest, swat kats: the radical squadron, the addams family to name but a couple.

Swat Kats
Mechanics by day, the masked Swat Kats trio are a crack force defending Megakat City from criminal masterminds and monsters. Well-crafted, meticulously-animated children's science-fiction in faithful anime style, with well-rounded characters, ongoing storylines and rakes of humour. Written by Cynan Rees

The Pirates of Dark Water
Mer is another world. Most of the planet's surface is water, "The Twenty Seas" where there are creatures such as: Monkey-Birds and the Levithan. On Mer, Octopon was once a great city ruled by Primus, Primus was captured by the evil pirate Bloth, captain of the most feared pirate ship "Maelstrom" (who is after the Thirteen Treasures of Rule) and wiped out Primus's fleet, killed every heir to the throne of Octopon. But several of Primus's captains escaped with the treasures. 17 years later, Ren, a young teenager raised by a lighthouse keeper, learns he is the son of Primus and heir to the throne of Octopon. Joined by his companions: Niddler, loyal and cowardly Monkey-Bird, Ioz, a former pirate, Tula, a young ecomancer with the power to control nature and Zoolie, also a former pirate. Ren and his companions embarks on a quest as they travel across Mer in search of the Thirteen Treasures of Rule, where Bloth bids to take possession of the Thirteen Treasures of Rule and control "The Dark Water" tar-like water which swallow anything in it's path and engulf every island on Mer and destroy the world. By finding the treasures, only Ren and his companions can save the world from destruction. Written by Daniel Williamson

Jonny Quest (1996)
Computer wiz Jonny Quest and his friends battle international criminals using the resources of the Quest Foundation. Their chief weapon, and the target of many of their enemies, is the permanent, variable, sometimes unpredictable computer-generated VR domain, Questworld, which is entered using VR headsets. Inside Questworld, they must solve puzzles, locate hidden objects, battle evildoers and escape very-real danger if they are to succeed. Written by Cynan Rees

I liked PIRATES OF DARK WATER. I taped the entire 5-part mini-series that
came before the regular series.

I also watched THE REAL ADVENTURES OF JONNY QUEST and bought one of
the videos. But I still prefer the original 1964 series myself.

pirates of dark water is one of my personal favourites as well. its such a shame we didn't get the ending we wanted and that the story wasn't resolved in the end

i am not too familiar with the earlier and previous version of jonny quest, i wasn't born when it was originally televised but having watched a couple of episodes of the then titled: 'the real adventures of jonny quest' in the 90s, i liked what i saw and the storylines and characters were all very interesting and good as well

I still think the Best thing H-B ever did was the original MGM Tom & Jerry cartoons

not forgetting also, yogi bear, huckleberry hound, scooby doo, flintstones, the jetsons to name but many. i agree though the early creations of the 60s and 70s were better, but hanna barbera still made some decent cartoons in the 90s. and so, their status in the cartoon world is all the more understandable as they churned out hit after hit in all four decades

Not to belittle in any way the classic, Oscar-winning duo of Tom & Jerry, Bill
Hanna & Joe Barbera found a way to make animation affordable for the new
medium of television, paving the way for all the other animation studios that
followed (Jay Ward, Bob Clampett, Total TV, Rankin/Bass, DePatie-Freleng,
Filmation, etc., right up to DIC, Warner Bros., Fox, and even Disney).

yes, i suppose that hanna barbera started out as a little company among the so-called big boys, disney and warner bros, and thus they eventually developed and became one of the most successful and established animation studios in the world. i agree that if it weren't for hanna barbara and their success, then the likes of rankin bass, filmation, ruby spears- these other so-called, 'lesser known' animation companies etc would cease to exist.

their success gave them hope to succeed in this particular market
