Default Sherwood Schwartz is helping the WGA strike

I thought this was interesting

Writer Sherwood Schwartz, 91, who created The Brady Bunch and Gilligan's Island, was joined by his children and a grandson, all writers, on picket lines outside Paramount Studios on Tuesday.

At CBS Radford studio, writers welcomed three generations of Schwartzes to a rally: Sherwood Schwartz, 91; the creator of "Gilligan's Island" and "The Brady Bunch"; son Lloyd, who has written for "Alice," "The A-Team" and "Baywatch"; and grandson Andy Schwartz, a writer on "Scrubs."

Three generations of writers on strike
BY AMY LYONS

Television icon Sherwood Schwartz joined the WGA picket line at CBS Radford on Thursday, December 6, marking the fourth time the 91-year-old creator of “The Brady Bunch” and “Gilligan’s Island” has gone on strike.
Schwartz was joined by his son, Lloyd; daughter, Hope; daughter-in-law, Barbara; and grandchildren Andy and Eliot.

“We did the original ‘Gilligan’s Island’ here,” Schwartz said. “It used to be a lagoon, but now it’s a parking lot for executives.”

Schwartz said each strike he has participated in over the years has resulted in some type of gain for writers. In 1964, he said, writers fought for residuals and won.

“If you want something you have to show up and march,” Schwartz said.

“No one is going to just hand you what you want.”
Lloyd Schwartz, who has collaborated on numerous writing projects with his father, said the strike is about fairness.

“We are not trying to make a fortune,” Lloyd Schwartz said. “We are just trying to get our fair share.”

Representing a new generation of writers, 26-year-old Andy Schwartz said the necessity of the WGA strike trumps the inconvenience of not working. Andy has been a writer on the hit sit-com “Scrubs” for the last two years. He has walked various picket lines every day since the start of the strike.
“There are a lot of issues, like the DVD issue and residuals,” Andy Schwartz said. “As a young writer who feels lucky to have a job, this strike is an inconvenience, but the necessity outweighs the inconvenience…it’s ridiculous to show an entire episode of a show on the internet and say it’s for marketing purposes.”

Another famous family of writers, Larry Miller and his wife Eileen Conn, also walk WGA picket lines daily and have brought their two sons, ages 8 and 11, to the lines to teach them about the importance of having a voice. Miller said the Schwartz family representation was important.

“Like Sherwood said, each strike brings a little more gain,” Miller said. “My wife and I were also on line with the grocery workers when they went on strike a few years ago and we brought our kids out to show them we are a union family.”

^^
Very, very interesting indeed.

I think it's cool that even though Mr. Shwartz is getting up there in age, he still has managed to show his support in something he believes in. "Groovy"
I personally don't believe writers get the acknowledgement that they should so I'm glad to hear he shares the belief!
Cool story Matt!
