Here is a little something that will make The Big Bang Theory fans smile. Last week, The Big Bang Theory was still the # 3 rated new show, and # 2 new show in the 18-49 demo despite it being a repeat. This show continues to sizzle. See here :

Note: Big Bang Theory followed an all-new episode of How I Met Your Mother that week, thus its repeat was over a million higher than usual, while Pushing Daisies leads the night off and repeats of the other two dramas followed...

Well, as long as we are making notes here, Samantha Who was not put on the list, and it got a little over 6 milliion viewers, and it aired as a new episode against a repeat of Two and Half Men that killed it in the ratings. Samantha Who is this years version of Help You, Help Me. It can only get a rating after DWTS. That is why ABC pulled it this week to save it another major embarassment of being creamed by another Two and Half Men repeat. Everyone was quick to label Samantha Who a hit, which I kind of knew it would drop off the table after DWTS left. I will take The Big Bang Theory and its ratings over Samantha Who (without the DWTS help) anytime. |

It's not a plug...I'm just replying to roseanne's comment about PD. How they are ranked is not all that counts...you have to look at all aspects to analyze (and that is what the networks do). That week BBT had a new episode of HIMYM as its lead-in, while PD was part of a line-up with repeats and had to stand alone.
I like all the shows we are commenting about...BBT, PD and Samantha Who. Samantha Who was pulled so ABC can save more new episodes for later rather than waste them during the holidays. If they were going to pull it for its ratings, wouldn't they have pulled Notes from the Underbelly, too? And SW didn't tank like Help Me Help You...that show tanked to 4-5 million as soon as DWTS was off. And it was pulled for November sweeps even when DWTS was still going on. That show did 9-11 million or less after DWTS...SW did 14-16 million. HMHY returned in December and did terrible (4-5 million or less). Samantha did 7.16 million, which is not bad against the #1 rated sitcom (which repeats very well). If the show was still at 9:30, it would have done better because even when DWTS had its finale, SW premiered in its new time of 9pm (11.69 million) was down from what it did at 9:30 (14.38 million previous week)....why? Two and a Half Men. |

Per your own ratings Samantha Who did the following on Monday December 10 :
9:00PM SAMANTHA WHO? 4.4/7, 6.71, 2.8/7, 3.1/7 So it got 6.71 million viewers and a whopping 2.8 in the 18-49 demo, and don't forget it went up against a Two and Half Men repeat, which got 11.49 million. If Two and Half Men was new it probably would have been less than 6 million. After that ABC abruptly pulled it the following week and extended Duel to 1 1/2 hours. The reason they did this was to keep the three new episodes for either when DWTS returns or at least to try it will the DWTS spinoff. Samantha Who needs its crutch of DWTS to pull in any kind of rating, and ABC knows it. They are saving the episodes so it can air with the DWTS ( or the spinoff of DWTS) crutch so it can have an artificial sitcom success. All I am saying ( and I said this from the beginning) is before everyone labels this show a hit let's see how it does without DWTS. I mean the BBT repeat even with the HIMYM new show lead beat it in the ratings. The only way Samantha Who survives long term is to place it after DWTS. On its own it is a complete bust. And let's not get into Notes From the Underbelly ( under 4 million viewers last Monday against a Two and Half Men repeat), which ABC is now glad to burn off, and get rid of. Notes actually makes Caveman look like a success. Let's be honest ABC is off to their annual sitcom busts of the year. Samantha is a success in disguise. It can only succeed with the DWTS crutch. Any other time slot, and it joins the long list of ABC sitcom busts for the past few years. When you consider that The Big Bang Theory got its ratings up against DWTS, and Samantha Who got its ratings with DWTS as its lead in, you tell me which is the only new sitcom success this year ? |

December 3 Samantha Who did 7.16 million, that is what I meant. 6.71 million was Dec. 10, yes. Not embarrassing or Help Me Help You-like like you said. It isn't great either, but not bad. You said a little over 6 million...again the wording you say is misleading. Fair test if Big Bang Theory is a success or not would be if it lead the night off or anchored an hour, like Samantha Who was doing on Dec. 3 and 10....and it was up against the #1 rated sitcom. Big Bang Theory was up against Aliens in America sitcom wise, the lowest rated sitcom.
Big Bang Theory will be off-air for The Captain on Feb. 4, so the last airing of BBT will be Jan. 21. Will the layoff (at least 6 weeks) hurt it? I think all the episodes would have aired twice already anyway. Merry Christmas Superbowl! |

I'm kind of with Superbowl on this one. The topic hasn't really been brought up yet about Samantha Who?'s declining ratings, but he's right. The show was getting more than double of what it's getting now when it was after DWtS. It's supposed to be this season's top-rated comedy, and it can't even get more viewers than a repeat of BBT. But, it's not the show's fault. It's a good show . . . it's just on the wrong network (ABC is not the network for sitcoms nowadays.).

i have watched all the repeat episodes of Big Bang Theory, and I enjoyed every episode just as much the second (or third) time.
- to me this is a sign of a good show with strong writing and a cast that really gels well. . i dont understand why ABC is afraid to show repeats of Pushing Daisies, i mean not everyone is going to like the show but they need to give people a chance to see it and gain an audience; it isn't as serialized as a lot of the other abc shows, so people don't have to watch every ep to know what is going on and get into it. |

I really like the Big Bang Theory, Pushing Daisies I don't like it's too cartoonish imo. Samantha Who I've gotten to like too. Anyway, I hope Laurie Metcalf and Sara Gilbert make more appearances they're great.
