Thinking back to this show makes me realize how much I like Patty Duke.
One of my pet peeves is stars who never seem to get the fame or recognition they deserve. To me, Patty was a lot more talented than quite a few celebs I can think of. She was a great actress and singer. Part of the reason may have been her battles with personal demons--I always admired her for her candor about this-- & also she was just fabulous in the 60s. Truly an ULTRA TALENTED gal. Share your appreciation of Patty too! |

I've always liked The Patty Duke Show, classic 60's TV from a happier and simpler time. Watching these episodes is definitely a pleasant, nostalgic experience. I know it brings back fond memories for me. We don't hear much from Patty these days, she has battled some personal demons over the years but she is a survivor and her TV show truly needs to be issued on DVD!

Last year Patty Duke was in Houston and did a 30 minute interview for our local PBS station. She was totally fun. Here's a link to it:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...22672554924488 I think Patty is an amazing actress. She deserves every award she's ever received and more! One thing that impresses me about her acting on The Patty Duke Show is how she used her whole body to show the differences between Patty and Cathy Lane. The obvious difference is the posture - Cathy's was perfect. But, check out her eyes when she's doing scenes. Patty's are bright-eyed and wide opened. When she's Cathy her eyes are more sedate. She's not playing the same part in different outfits, she became two different characters. There have been shows with real twins that haven't been acted as well as Patty in The Patty Duke Show. |

She was also great as Helen Keller in the Miracle Worker. That's one of my favorite movies.

^ That is indeed a terrific movie, and both ladies truly deserved their Oscars! Anne Bancroft and Patty Duke both performed the roles on Broadway (prior to filming the movie), and when Ms. Bancroft left the show, she was replaced by Suzanne Pleshette (Bob Newhart Show)!!! Patty Duke has indeed conquered many demons and is indeed a terrifc talent!!
