John Travolta has been dropped from the new Dallas movie, despite having been attached to the project for more than two years. Travolta - who had been cast as oil tycoon villain J.R. Ewing in the film adaptation of the 1980s TV soap - was "let go about two weeks ago", according to U.S. reports. A source tells the New York Post's gossip column PageSix, "John was given a nice seven-figure 'gift' to go away quietly. He also got five family members roles in the movie, and they aren't going to be in it now, either." And while a friend of Travolta has confirmed the star's non-involvement, he disputes rumours the Grease star was "paid off" to leave the project. The pal says, "He is not doing the movie. They've gone in a different direction than was originally intended. I don't know about any 'gift,' and I don't think the family member thing is correct." Travolta is not the only star to have been allegedly dropped from the project. The first major upheaval occurred last year when Shirley MacLaine, who was to play Miss Ellie, Luke Wilson (Bobby Ewing) and Jennifer Lopez (Sue Ellen) were dropped from the cast. Meg Ryan and Matthew McConaughey's names were then brought up, but neither was signed. Director Robert Luketic was also rumoured to have been let go in favour of Bend It Like Beckham filmmaker Gurinder Chadha, and the budget was downsized from an original GBP32.5 million to "something way less," according to sources. A spokesperson for 20th Century Fox declined to comment. http://uk.news.yahoo.com/wenn/200712...c60bd6d_1.html |

Wonder what the deal is there. He'd make a great J.R. I think they should give Ray Liotta's agent a call, even George Clooney.

No wonder the writers are on strike. Making remakes, sequels, and direct-to-video crap really makes them seem to be dull.

Nothing Ewing: Dallas Movie Drops Travolta John Travolta by Jeff Vespa/WireImage.comAttached to the big-screen adaptation of Dallas for more than two years, John Travolta has been released from the role of J.R Ewing and "given a nice seven-figure 'gift' to go away quietly," a source tells Page Six. A pal of the former Vinnie Barbarino confirms the news, saying the film's producers "have gone in a different direction than was originally intended." What sort of different direction? Originally envisioned as a dramedy, the talk is that Dallas will now be a "comedic, behind-the-scenes" "show-within-a-show" a la Bewitched, and that Ben Stiller has been offered J.R.'s 10-gallon hat. Wow, there is just so much wrong with that previous sentence. This movie went from bad to worst. I never thought Travolta was the right choice ( I wanted Bruce Willis) but Travolta is 100 times better than Stiller. This movie is going to be a joke. hno:

John would have been a great J.R. However, my understanding is that John wanted the movie to stick to how the actual show was. The producers of this movie are taking it elsewhere and it is infuriating the DALLAS fans (like me). I say, LEAVE IT ALONE!!!! DON'T BOTHER MAKING THE DAMN MOVIE.
