Default The Stallings case....

If you recall, this story was about the Stallings family, who lost their infant son Ryan to what the police thought was poisoning. The mother of the child, Patty Stallings, was convicted of his murder. Later, after Patty gave birth to another baby boy, it was discovered that the issue was actually Methylmalonic Acidemia. Ryan died of this disease.

I've looked everywhere but I can only find some old articles about the family and the case. Is there anything else out there about how the family is doing now?

There was an MS-NBC recap of this about a month ago.

No, actually it is really old. From early on when UM started.

On the last update, authorities officially said the Stallings kids had "MMA" and were not poisoned. The state apologized and they got their living son back (who also has MMA). They were very pleased and seemed to be doing well. But that was a long time ago.

The only information I have been able to find is that the Stallings sued the doctors for wrongful death after Patti Stallings was acquitted. The story of Patti Stallings has been lectured on many times since then in the medical community. Authorities apparently thought that she suffered from Münchhausen's Syndrome by Proxy, which wasn't mentioned in the Unsolved Mysteries story (at least not that I remember).

Sometimes I wonder what ever happened to the Stallings family- if their second son is still living, for example. David and Patti seemed like good people and good parents in my opinion.

It really is. I don't understand, I would think that after going through such a devastating time, that would bring couples closer, make them appreciate what they could have lost, etc. I don't understand it.

Actually, it's the opposite. The stress drives them apart because each has trouble dealing. Bad stressful situations like that are usually worse for marriages. Sad but true.

Anyone have any reference for the divorce? Not that I doubt it, just looking for more info.

I don't know if it's true or not, but I heard somewhere that 75% of all couples who lose a child end up divorcing. And the Stallings had the added stress of having their other child taken, going to jail, etc. It's sad.

MSNBC re-aired this abt a month ago on their channel and they had updated it. It stated the couple had divorced.

Thanks, Irene!

Wish I would have seen it. That's too bad as they seemed like good people and they went through all that crap. :-(

I agree. I was saddened when I seen the update. What a price they paid.

I've never seen an update. Thank you for it.

It's very sad to learn that they split, but the Stallings family obviously went through a great deal of stress. I just hope that they are happy, wherever they are now.

Originally Ryan Stallings' case aired on May 8 1991. A "similar" case aired on April 24 1991: Jerry(or Jeri) Graves from Eagle, Idaho (Thanks to CD and joshypiano for the original airdates!). You will note the confusion between the two cases of some of the posters in the following thread:
