I'm not a very religious person, but I do believe in God. A few month's ago, a televangelist grabbed my attention. Her name is Joyce Myer. Her talks are very uplifting and inspiring. As her bio here indicates, she had an abusive father, and an abusive first husband, and is a breast cancer survivor.
http://imdb.com/name/nm0583218/bio If anyone wants to her speak, here's her site. She doesn't talk constantly about God. She chooses a few scriptures, then just talks normally. She can be very funny at times. http://www.joycemeyer.org/ Please, this thread is for preachers that you enjoy and why, not to rehash old preacher scandals. That can be another thread, if you must. |

Great thread Janice!
Joel Osteen for me. The man seems to be filled with the Holy Spirit. His words can really help motivate you. |

However, while she wasn't technically a preacher (since she was the wife of one), I loved Tammy Faye and was saddened when I saw her on Larry King a few months ago and then by her death days later. |

Joel Osteen for me too. I think he's fantastic! I have one of his books and really enjoyed it as well. He's one I'd go see if he ever comes to my town. His preaching is uplifting and fun... never found myself thinking "when is this going to be over!"

I can't stand most televangelists, but I tune into Joe Osteen every week. I agree with other posters here: his sermons are uplifting and enjoyable, instead of "You're all going to hell!" which is what some preachers seem to say. (At least, IMO!) Plus the fact, I think he's adorable w/ his southern accent and all. (Yeah, I know he's married and has kids, but hey, I can look, can't I? hehe)

I like Joel Olsteen too; he's just very inspiration and is all about making people better and become closer to God. I also like T.D. Jakes, Juanita Bynum (the woman who was attacked by her husband earlier this year) and Paula White...and my own pastor, lol.

I've always enjoyed listening to Billy Graham - when his crusade came to Cleveland in 1994, I went to see it with my youth group. A little closer to home, the pastor and vicar of my church help inspire me, too. The Lord is truly alive in both their hearts!

I liked Tammy Faye too. She was a sweet lady with a true Christian heart. And it was a hoot seeing her all decked out in that make up. Surprised John Waters didn't get her in a movie. I miss her. |

there not televangalesit (sorry, i know i butchered that spelling) To be honest, I don't like most of the ones on TV... they get on my nerves. (Sorry--Even Ol' Joel and Joyce)
I love listening to Franis Chan, David Platt, and Perry Noble. You can find all their sermons line... they're very real. They don't sugar coat the gospel. They're just awesome speakers. |

I can't stand Osteen! There's just something about the man I don't like. He makes a lot of sense and I agree with him on a lot of things, but I just don't trust him. He's a smooth talker. He caries himself as a salesman. I don't like him. Of course, I may just be bias.
I don't really like being preached to. I don't like to be told I'll go to hell, I don't like to have someone else's translation of the scripture forced upon me. I am not receptive to most preachers. I suppose I was once, but that was some time ago. I love God, but I've had it with religion. |

I admit, I've found some of the old Fulton J. Sheen programs (reran every now and then on EWTN) somewhat interesting. Otherwise, no.
