Thumbs down Thumbs down from me

Just chippin in my two cents here, I won't be buying these DVD's.

FKB is dated and is unbelievably hokey. At the end of pratically every episode that sappy music starts playing and you know someone's about to admit they've done something so terribly wrong but everyone's always so forgiving and says we still love you!!! Please, give me a break. Hand me a hanky, will ya?

Leave It To Beaver was a much better family show than this, even Billy Gray has been quoted that he hates FKB and is ashamed he took part in it. Hugh Beaumont was a much better TV dad when compared to Robert Young's bellowing, frightful father figure.

I'll pick this up, but as long as this is not overpriced. Very entertaining show.

Looking at that news release link,it look like the suggested price will be 34.99and I'll pick it up as I haven't seen the show in years. From what I remember I enjoyed the show but that was 25 years ago when I think WTBS was showing it.I really have my doubts if more than 1 or 2 seasons will be released.Leave it to Beaver still hasn't had season 3 released despite the fact it's still shown regularly on TV Land.

FKB & LITB are both vintage nostalgia but I also like LITB much more--Hugh Beaumont rocked as a dad and I really liked Wally....and June with that pearl fetish!!!!

But I'm always happy to see a show's fans get DVD releases.

and the missing episode from season 1 has been located from a collector who owns a 16 mm print. It will be included in the set now, even if it's too late to make the corrections on the box.

Default Received my DVD today!

I pre-ordered the FKB Season 1 DVD set and received mine today. I'm very pleased! The bonus features were great! Elinor Donahue and Lauren Chapin were interviewed on a segment called "Daddies Girls" and it wasn't just a short feature. It ran a nice length and was alot of fun to watch. I also enjoyed seeing color movies taken on the set. It was fun to see The Anderson's house in color. The shows are still funny and I think fans will enjoy the set!

I just ordered my set today from Amazon, so I should be getting it by next week. Can't wait! I didn't get to know this show until CBN Cable began rerunning it in the mid '80s (and WTBS had pulled the show 1 week after adding it to its summer schedule one year--boy, was I mad!).

Not really being a fan of the show, I wasn't going to buy this season one set anyway, but from reviews I've read this is one horrible DVD release. About half of the episodes are syndicated/cut versions, so about 3 to 4 minutes is missing from those episodes. On top of that, the video quality is sub par as well. Sure sounds like a candidate for worst DVD release of the year to me. FKB fans should not settle for this and boycott this product. Don't settle for inferior quality, especially something as bad as this. Save your money, folks.

I don't know what the problem was here, perhaps some of these episodes are no longer available in their complete form, if that's the case then Shout Factory should not have even bothered to issue the season. This release makes the Gomer Pyle DVD's look superb in comparison.

there is plenty of discussion about the release at the Home Theater Forum (and it had gotten quite heated!).
My viewpoint is.......what are the odds we will ever see another release of any kind for FKB? No one is airing reruns and I'm not going to wait forever on seeing this show. I'm not arguing with your viewpoint, Lee, I understand where it comes from.

First let me say I haven't even looked at the much anticipated father knows best dvd release yet, I'm saving it for the weekend, but I read the rather harsh review and this is nothing personal, everyone is entitled to their opinions, that's what reviews and critics are all about but in shouts defense, I would like to bring up some valid points regarding the series and its release finally to dvd that the reviewer might not have known about...I have been a very serious collector of the series for years.......many of the master film elements to the series, especially the first season were cut and destroyed years ago.....FKB was treated horribily when it entered a very early syndicated marketplace.....openings were destroyed and replaced, thats' why you hear the kids giggiling while walking through the door because the audio was replaced from when they were sitting on the stairs laughing! The Thanksgiving episode is a miracle, it was completely withdrawn from the syndication package because the master had audio problems during the first few minutes, so they relied on private collectors to help out with their own film collections. That's also why one episode is duplicated because they located a better longer version from a private collector.....I think Shout really tried here, but there is an old saying in the video industry...which I have worked in for the past 28 years, s*it in, s*it out.....not to say the package is s*it, I just really believe they were really against the odds here and sincerely did the best they could, perhaps their only fault is not putting some type of disclaimer on the box briefly explaining the original element situation......I just hope they continue with the series and horrible negative reviews from the start certainly won't help....this series is about to be lost forever and that would be a terrible shame.......Shout has abandon recent series lately and I hate them to go the way of sony.....That Girl, '69 Bill Cosby, we must try and support them, they really did try!

Thanks for your insight on Father Knows Best, I had suspected that full versions of some first season episodes no longer exist. I am down on Shout Factory anyway, they apparently have given up on The Bill Cosby Show. The first season probably didn't sell very well, so they said to hell with the second season. The Bill Cosby Show only had two seasons, the least they could have done was issue the second season in a limited number so interested fans could complete the series. For me it's not that bad because I already have uncut episodes of the whole series, airings I taped from TV years ago and some eps are from 16mm film.

I'm loving the DVD Set too! The extras are amazing. I grew up watching this show on CBN and it's one of the shows that feels like home to me.

Putting aside the fact that unfortunately some of these episodes in this set are edited, what is the overall video quality of the episodes? 8? 9?
