Default Journey Find New Singer Online

Rock legends Journey have found their new singer online. Bandmates Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, Ross Valory and Deen Castronovo introduced Arnel Pineda to fans in a statement released late on Wednesday. He replaces Jeff Scott Soto, who quit the band earlier this year.

Journey discovered rocker Pineda after guitarist Schon stumbled upon tribute band The Zoo, while surfing the Internet, desperately trying to find a replacement for Soto.

The Zoo, who were fronted by Pineda, had become such a live favourite in the frontman's native Philippines they had financed a series of videos and posted them on community website YouTube.com.

The thrilled singer says, "It's so exciting to sing with one of the best bands in the world. It'll be a lot of hard work on my part and I'm actually looking forward to the scrutiny I'll get from the hardcore fans. I know they'll expect me to sound exactly like (original singer) Steve Perry, but that will never happen. I know there's only one Steve Perry in this world."

Schon is delighted with his discovery - because he came close to abandoning his talent search: "I was starting to think I was never going to find anybody. But then I found The Zoo and I watched a bunch of different video clips that they had posted."

The "Don't Stop Believing" hitmakers are working on a new album, which they hope to release next spring.

Wow...whatever happened to Steve Augeri? Last I'd heard, he was still in the band. Of course, that was like 2 years ago.

I'm sorry, folks, but Journey without Steve Perry is just like Bewitched without Dick York. Steve Perry is THE MAN!!!

it's been ten years, isn't it time they patch up their differences with Perry?

Steve Augeri began having vocal problems on tour and left the tour last year and was replaced by a guy Neal Schon worked with called Jeff Scott Soto.

Originally, Soto was just an interim replacement, but it was announced a year ago that Augeri was permanently departing and Soto was officially a member of the band. Soto had gotten rave reviews from reviewers and fans for his strong voice and stage presence.

However, Soto was dumped last summer and the band decided to search for a new singer.

It's become a joke now: Journey should quit and retire, but there's too much money to be had playing the sheds in the summer.

^ Agreed. If they can't get Perry back, then they should pack it in. The guys could always start a new band, or they could re-form Bad English.

I think if they're staying together for the money, wouldn't they make even more money with Perry than they would with Augeri or whoever else since?

Of course, but that stupid male ego or pride or just the inability to be able to say those two words, "I'm sorry" is just way to hard to do. It is easier to hire an "unknown", work in shacks rather than come together as brothers and make a $$$$$.

I think it'd be a different thing if they had a new singer who was a completely different type of vocalist. Kinda like how VH replaced Roth with Hagar. Augeri and the sort have all been poor substitutions for what Perry offered

Very true! Journey was my favorite band as a kid in the early to mid-'80s and Steve Perry kicked ass! That voice is irreplaceable!
