Default Another Super-Stupid Sherri Shepherd Comment

As if it weren't bad enough that she told the nation several months ago that she didn't know whether the world is flat, now she's claiming that Christians pre-dated the ancient Greeks and Romans, and that it was the Greeks who threw Christians to the lions. I could have sworn the coliseum I visited where that happened was in ROME! How much does this woman get paid for being ignorant?

Give her a break! It's a simple geographical error, everybody makes them!

Her errors are both geographical AND historical. And "simple" is the operative word here. These are simple facts that everybody should know, like knowing the world is not flat! No, I'm not going to give her a break because she's put herself on a national broadcast platform where people listen to her, and gets paid zillions of dollars to express her uneducated views. If she is missing such fundamental knowledge, I have a big problem with her being in that position. To not know the simple geographical difference between Greece and the Roman Empire is deplorable. To not know that the civilizations of ancient Greece and Rome preceded Christianity is inexcusable. Giving someone like that airtime says a lot about our culture. The rest of the world is moving ahead of us while our culture continues to get more and more stupid. People here place more importance on who's winning on American Idol than they do with what's going on in politics and in the world. It's so embarrassing when I travel in Europe and find that people over there know more about what's going on in our country than does the average person here. Sherri Shepherd is the perfect example of what's gone wrong with our country and why we need to start putting an emphasis on education.

Thumbs down

^ She needs to check up on her facts before getting into a debate. Watching her is like watching Jay Leno's Jaywalking, and that's not good.

I second that! But none of those people on Jaywalking wind up getting multi-million dollar jobs on network TV. Though at the rate our television industry is going, they probably will eventually. After all, isn't that "leave Britney aloooooone!!!" whack job being given his own show?

Pathetic, isn't it?? I'm surprised Solomon hasn't added his input on this thread yet.

As I was reading your post I thought it was going to say, "I'm surprised Solomon hasn't gotten his own show yet."

I can think of quite a few famous names that you can replace "Sherri Shepherd" with.

I so am disgusted with anyone in America who doesn't know their geography. I love geography. I wish there had been more emphasis of it in school and high school. Too many people think Hawaii is a country. Too many people don't recognize states on a map. Much less a country.

Did anyone see American Idol Kelly Pickler on FOX's show Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader? Oy vey SHE MAKES SHERRI SHEPPARD LOOK LIKE A GENIUS:

Oh my gosh, is that scary! This reminds me of something that happened when I was in college. I had a friend from Lebanon. We had a mutual friend, Beth, who invited us both over to dinner one night. Somehow we got on the subject of Paris. Beth did not realize Paris was a city. She thought it was a region in England, and that France was a city in England. My Lebanese friend was struggling to keep a straight face. I was personally very embarrassed. A few years later, I was working at IBM. I was about to take an extended trip to Mexico and was talking to a woman there about my plans. She asked me if Mexico was an island. Another person in this same workplace once asked me if you could drive to Hawaii.

I also remember years ago, Oprah was talking about a study that was done with high school seniors in Dallas. They were asked what country borders Texas to the south. 50 percent of them did not know!

I think this deserves a thread of its own.
