Default UPDATE: Alex Kelly released. BOO! HISS!

Alex Kelly was released 2 months ago, and is back living in Darien, Connecticut with his parents. He is registered as a sex offender and has to wear a monitor. his has grayed and he is now wearing glasses. At least one of his victims feels that he will commit more crimes.

I just taped this off of today's "Inside Edition", so if you want to see it, check local listings.

Remind me of the details of this... The name isn't ringing any bells.

Alex Kelly lived a privileged life in the wealthy, affluent community of Darien, CT. When he was 18 he raped two underage girls (one happened 4 days after the other). He was arrested, but his wealthy parents posted bond, and he quickly left the country to Europe and lived the good life for almost a decade, before the FBI caught wind of it and started closing in. He spent the next decade behind bars.

I did want to mention that the community of Darien, CT seems to be pretty alert/aware of his release, and he does have some of the strictest conditions in the country for a released prisoner: the monitor that I spoke of above, and he can't leave the state, or be alone in the presence of minors, or consume alocholic beverages. I hope to God all of these things combined prevent future incidents from happening.

That means he can't even go into NYC which is not far from there?

I guess it's all for the best, tho. For the best of the community he resides in now that he's being monitored and, as you said, hope this all combined prevents future incidents from happening.

I think once a deviant mind has done the things he's done though, in my honest opinion, jailtime and restrictions do nothing for that mind's carnal drives. I've heard about this happening many times before. I think someone in Kelly's position or someone like him would do better being rehabilitated (with therapy and possibly meds, although some don't believe in meds) than restricted. But, on the other hand, restrictions do make the community he resides in safer now. That's one good thing at least.........

Well, I guess all we can do is hope and pray that Alex Kelly doesnst hurt anyone else. It must be remember though that Kelly was only released, because he had to be.

He was sentenced under the old law in Connecticut because that is when his crimes were commited, under that law, if a prisoner behaved, eventually they released a mandatory release date, Kelly had been denied parole in the past f or early release, but he had simply reached his mandatory release date.

Now, actually in part because of Alex Kelly's case, this law in Connecticut was changed in the late 90's so you had to do a majority of your sentence before you can be released, I want to say it is at least 75 percent of the sentence, maybe even more than that.

Well according to wiki, Alex Kelly has been put on ten years probation. Now whether or not he has to mantain all of these restrictions for the full ten years, I don't know. I find it very hard to believe that they are going to have him wear a ankle monitor or whatever for ten years. I'm not saying they won't just find that hard to believe. Also the alcoholic beverage thing might be hard to enforce unless Kelly is a dumbass and decides to do something reckless. Then again we don't know how often they will test him for alcohol in his system or whatnot.

I think all things considered Kelly got a pretty good deal he was sentenced to sixteen years in prison served ten its not like he was out in three years or something and now is out of prison and has these restrictions put on him for at least the immediate future. Some other terms of his release are he has to perform 200 hours of community service, pay a ten thousand dollar fine and register as a known sex offender. Kelly has also claimed that he earned a bachelors degree in economics while in prison and hopes to persue a career in that field.

Will Alex commit more crimes? - I don't know - Alex and I actually have a mutual friend and she feels he won't and last time I talked to her she planned on visiting him after his release from prison. We've never talked about Alex Kelly at any great length but from talking with her and also reading the book SAINT OF CIRCUMSTANCE it was well known among the residents of Darien that Alex Kelly at the time he committed these horrible crimes was fighting a lot of demons in his life and was a very disturbed young man. A lot of Alex's anger centered around abuse from his father and feeling alienated from his family at large.

I hope for Alex's sake (and the people he'll come in contact with on a day to day basis) that his time in prison has begun the process of rehabilitation at the very least and he will continue down that road with therapy and whatnot and try to mantain a normal, healthy life. If you want my gut feeling on this issue: I don't see Alex Kelly making headlines anytime soon but on the other hand as a teenager he was certainly a messed up individual with a lot of personal demons. Hopefully he has worked through some of that stuff and will continue to do so in the future.

I was wondering if you could go into a little more detail about the personal demons Alex Kelly was facing, I think it might be releveant at least to an extent to this case.

Doesn't suprise me about his father. His parents didn't come off as the type of people I would want to associate with.

Its been awhile since I've read the book which I really again reccomend is a must read not only for this case but if you want to know why so many children growing up in the "me generation" ended up some FUBAR.

Anyhow starting off with Alex Kelly's father, Alex's dad always had a lot of problems living in a wealthy community when he was not exactly one of the so called "in crowd" in that community. Alex's dad struggled with his own feelings of inadequacy as he was not one of the CEO Fortune 500 types and he was living among all these people who he didn't care for. I believe that the wealth in the Kelly family came from Alex's mom. Alex's dad I believe was a repairman of some sort and would service the Darien residents exclusively a job which he hated.

So Alex's dad had some issues which I think he took out on his son. He would get on Alex about not being very masculine. - He would call his son names like "q**er" and "f*got" and just really run into him about not being a man and sort of being a sissy.

One instance I remember reading about happened when Alex was injured with a broken leg or something and was sitting on his front lawn he and his dad got into on the front lawn and his dad kicked that crap out of his son who at the time had a broken leg. So Alex's dad was both verbally and physically abusive towards his son and Alex over the years built up a lot of rage towards his father.

Its been said in fact that Alex joined the wrestling squad both to prove to his father that he wasn't a sissy and also as an outlet for all this aggression he had built up inside himself due to this anger he was holding in regarding his dad. Unfortunatley wrestling wasn't enough to temper the rage Alex had built up inside of him and eventually he went from dominating fellow grapplers on the mat to attacking women sexually.

The book SAINT OF CIRCUMSTANCE from what I remember from it draws a very clear line in where the abused became the abuser. Alex felt the need to exert control over people in his life because his father was such an controlling and demanding SOB towards him.

Basically to wrap this up Alex Kelly was raised in an enviornment that would make anyone's head spin with all the expectations, duty, pressure that is put upon someone like Alex Kelly to become a huge success in life. Add to that the excess and excessive partying Alex and his friends were known for including the heavy indulgence of booze, marijuana and pills and the added stress of the pressure cooker of a house he was coming home to every night - Alex was living a pretty screwed up life which all contributed to his attacks on those girls.
