DB Cooper

I'd be interested to know what everyone here thinks about what really happened to DB Cooper in light of all the increased attention this case has received recently-McCoy (as UM posited) is not the only one on the short list
of potential culprits...I heard a soon-to-be DB biographer on the radio the other night who claimed to interview a woman who received a confession
from none other than DB himself. Apparently, he used the money for medical
attention for his daughter who was seriously ill. This case continues to fascinate me. It's amazing how many theories there are- even more amazing is the amount of people who claim to be DB. One of them must be right-right?

I've always wondered if there were any car-jackings, cars stolen, or hitch-hikers in the area he landed around that time. Otherwise he would have to have an accomplice to drive out to where he was to pick him up. So someone should have noticed a stranger in town. Or he caught a bus in which case there would be a record of someone travelling out around that time. There are two thoughts on where he landed. one is near the small town of Ariel. Which should be easy to track down someones movements in. Or about 20 miles to the west. Which is a really remote area away from everything. Now it possible he could be a survivalist who was able to make it out of there. But I'm not sure.
I tend to believe Cooper did land out in the wilderness and was either injured then died or outright killed from something going wrong with the landing. Some of his money then got washed down the Columbia where that kid found it like 8 years later.

There are some very involved threads on this discussion board if you do a search for D.B. Cooper. I think the confession you speak of is bogus. A kid found some of the money in the river, as Joshypiano mentioned, that could be traced back to the ransom money delivered by the FBI. None of the remaining bills have ever shown up in the system, so I take it as evidence that he probably perished and/or was never able to use the money.

Why is there increased attention to the case? I haven't noticed it. Although, I did see a segment on DB Cooper-related cultural events and tourism on the Travel Channel last week.

You asked why there was increased attention to this case now? Maybe it's because it was the 35th annivesary last November. Or just that November is it's anniversary, so every year it seems to be re-hashed. I know that some things were recently released to the media that hadn't been before. At least here in the Seattle area. The media has had some special programs. His necktie and tie pin/clip, they now have some DNA off of the tie, so they feel they can rule out some of the people who have claimed to be D.B.

I also have a book titled 'DB Cooper: What Really Happened' as told to the author by a woman who claims she took him (DB Cooper) in with a few minor scrapes and broken bones after he landed in Clark or Cowlitz County. As she said it, he did it to escape the so-called rat race and he was a classic vanisher. A product of post-war suburbia who just left his wife one day cause he didn't like the pressures or something like that. This could be true or this could be fabricated. I don't even know. So many confessions and so much has been written that we may never know the whole, complete truth on this.

True. And it does seem to attract some "interesting" folks now and again.

Does anyone know if a parachute was found in the woods in the years after the skyjacking? I read this factoid in "Mysteries of the Unexplained" by Reader's Digest but have never been able to find a more reliable source with more information. I find it odd because one would think the discovery of one of the Cooper parachutes could potentially shed some light on his fate.

everything I read indicated they never found anything pertaining to his landing anywhere (other than the money the boy found years later)

People can discuss this as much as they want. We'll never find out the answer, you need to accept that fact. Somethings will just never be known. Even if they did find the guy for sure, he couldn't be prosecuted anyways, as the statue of limitations has long expired. The real guy could come forward tomorrow and say "I did it" and the FBI can't touch him!
