'American Idol' Update: What Happened To Former Favorites?

Thousands of people audition in hopes of becoming the next American Idol, but only one person can be crowned the new king or queen of the stage.

Once the show is over and the Idol tour has come to an end, many fans wonder what past contestants are up to since being eliminated from the show. Check out what some of Idol's wannabes are doing now:

Tamyra Gray
After placing fourth in the first season, when she really should have been in the finale, Tamyra Gray went onto bigger and better things. She was added as a cast member in David E. Kelly's TV series Boston Public as the role of Aisha Clemens. This show allowed Gray, 28, to dabble in both singing and acting.

Gray returned to the Idol stage to pen the winning single "I Believe" for season three winner Fantasia Barrino. After releasing her album 'The Dreamer,' Grey appeared in the Broadway play "Bombay Dreams" and landed a role in the Indie flick "The Gospel." Gray then received the chance of a lifetime when she was booked to play Mimi in Broadway's popular show Rent.

Jasmine Trias
Jasmine Trias placed third in season three of Idol thanks to a large call-in support in her home state of Hawaii as well as New York and California. Trias, 21, has released two albums since her time on Idol, one in the United States and the other in the Philippines. After low albums sales, Trias left her record company Clockwork Entertainment due to lack of promotion.

Trias is currently performing on the Las Vegas Strip where she impersonates popular singers like Janet Jackson, Beyonce and Britney Spears.

Frenchie Davis
Frenchie Davis seemed to be a shoe-in for the grand finale in season two, until she got disqualified after topless photos appeared on the internet. Davis, 28, proved that she didn't need Idol to be famous. In 2003, Davis became a cast member in the Broadway's popular show "Rent," where she sang various solos. She then appeared in the famous stage production "Dreamgirls." Once this stint ended, Davis decided to return to "Rent" where she is rumored to be staying until May 2007.

Constantine Maroulis
Constantine Maroulis was a favorite to win during season four of Idol, but sadly he was eliminated prematurely. Since appearing on Idol Maroulis, 32, has been performing on Broadway in "The Wedding Singer" and on the off-Broadway productions "Jacques Brel Is Alive & Well" and "Living In Paris." Maroulis was in talks with having his own ABC sitcom titled "Brooklyn" that would be based on his upbringing in a large Greek-American family in New York. However, ABC passed on the show before a script was even written.

In August 2006, CBS announced that Maroulis would join the cast in the popular daytime drama The Bold and the Beautiful for a limited run as singer and record producer Constantine Parros.

These past contestants are proof that you don't need to be crowned "American Idol" to be successful. With talent, hard work, belief and determination, non-winning contestants can go quite far in the entertainment business.
