Patti LaBelle Slams Modern Pop Stars - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Legendary singer Patti LaBelle has blasted female pop stars such as Britney Spears and Jessica Simpson, insisting they don't have the talent to achieve lasting careers in the music industry.

The 63-year-old found fame with girl group The Bluebelles when she was still in her teens, but believes her career has spanned decades because she has genuine vocal ability.

She says, "I think those girls are not going to be here very long. They have no talent. They are not like the Gladys Knight's and the Dionne Warwick's."

Absolutely...it's not rocket science. It's nice that someone reputable has the hutzpah to say it out loud.

She should be saying that abt the people from American Idol. At least Britney and Jessica have paid some dues and will indeed be paying more as time goes on. Britney and Jessica started out as children and worked hard to get where they got. They weren't handed a million dollar contract for appearing on a talent show and being chosen by the public.

NO talent? That's a matter of opinion. LaBelle isn't the least bit gracious or humble. How many decades ago did she have her last hit? You gotta love these has-been actors and singers who knock the younger performers.

I think Britney would have lasted decades if she had kept herself together. She was a good entertainer, along the lines of Madonna. Even if someone doesn't have an excellent voice, the fact that they can entertain and put on a great show, is a talent in itself.

Britney has a beautiful voice. Unique. What she is going through now has no bearing on how she sounds or how well she did before. She is having her drama and needs to straighten herself up. I am no Jessica fan, but I can say the girl can sing. I believe Britney can make a comeback. Where does Patti come off saying they have no talent? Like I said, she should be saying that abt people who are handed music contracts left and right.

Ms. LaBelle is entitled to her opinion just like you and I and that's her opinion. I agree with her remarks - she can sing circles around Britney and company IMO. Ms. LaBelle had her first charting hit in 1962 and most recent one in 2005, albeit in recent years her hits have been on the R&B charts only and have gotten airplay on mainly R&B stations. She's anything but a has been, she currently has a successful cooking show on TV One and recently released her third cook book and continues to tour every year. She still looks and sounds great for her age.

Having been a Patti LaBelle fan for over 30 years, her comments are way out of character for her. I can't recall her ever slamming another singer in public before. When I worked in radio, I had the chance to meet and interview her a few times and in person she was one of the nicest celebrities I met. One time she even made dinner for our entire crew lol

That is great to hear. She has always appeared to be nice lady and very funny too. I am taken aback by her comments. Like you said, it seems out of character for her to say such things. I am assuming the comments are true and if they are, I think it is a shame that she would go as low as to make such comments regarding a couple of singers who have proven their singing ability and the ability to sell records.

Low and classless remarks. This usually stems from jealousy. She's getting old, and I haven't heard a hit from her in two decades and 70 pounds ago. Okay, my bad. So of course, she knocks the hot and young perfomers of today. Ms. Has-been.

How many people have we read saying such stuff? It seems this past year there have been a handful (at least) of celebs saying things abt the "younger" crowd. These people forget, they were once young themselves.
