Default Observations abt the John Wayne footprints episode

Well, the three friends want to stay in Hollywood longer so they can visit sites and get more souvenirs. What were they doing the entire time they were there?

It is unbelievable that Lucy, Fred and Ethel DIDN'T visit Grauman's Chinese Theatre during the first week they were there. It is so close to the hotel, that should have been the first place they visited. So many tourists make sure that is the first thing they visit when they are in Hollywood. It is a must to visit that place.

When Lucy is sleeping on that chair in the Mertzes' room, her foot is hanging over that chair. That bucket filled with cement would have caused her foot to bend at the ankle. It would be extremely heavy. She could have broken her ankle. Her foot was just floating in the air with that bucket.

I remember someone pointing that out about her foot on another forum or somewhere. The funny thing is, I NEVER noticed it on my own! Did you notice it yourself Irene? If you did then you're much more observant than me.

I like this episode. Except the part I like the best is when they get up the next day and it's in the paper and I think that's the start of Part 2 isn't it?

Yeah, I probably mentioned that foot thingy. Or Madame X did and I responded to her comment abt that. I noticed that foot situation probably when I was 25 (fifteen years ago ). It dawned on me as I was watching it that the bucket would have been extremely heavy and there is no way she would have been able to let her foot just dangle over the couch without her ankle busting.

Also, when her butt gets stuck, I am sure the weight alone would have kept her from being able to walk.

Yep, the newspaper scene is the next episode. I laugh my head off when I see Lucy trying to cover up the curlers in her hair with that handbag of hers. The handles look like large hoop earrings.

Also that must have been some super fast drying concrete, because it takes at least 24 hrs for concrete to dry. And what kind of concrete did they use because it sure broke easily when Ricky was hitting it with a hammer LOL

Actually, i thought concrete might dry somewhat faster than that, certainly not the point where she falls one her a$$ and it dries right away, that was for comedic purposes, but you know what? I LOVED the way he chips at it after getting the bucket off, it looked real and made up for some other things on that show that never made sense or looked real, like a 10 foot bread loaf coming out of a 24 inch oven for one thing, LOL!

Exactly! Remember when the ladies took apart the barbecue pit, that was in the middle of the night and the boys had made that early in the day. That cement didn't dry right away.

Yeah, when Ricky hammered away, after what? three hits it fell apart.

It obviously was just a ready made cast that she just got into for that scene, but i loved that it looked and played so REAL.

I had wondered in the past about the weight of the cement bucket on her foot , but it occurred to me that the physics of the bucket being up against the side of the foot stool may taken some of the weight off of her foot. But I'm not a physicist, so I may not have any idea what I'm talking about! But in any case, I'm not sure the amount of cement to fill a bucket (less the space occupied by her foot) would weigh so much that it would cause her terrible pain. And given the trouble she was about to get in with Ricky, she might have been somewhat distracted from her own pain.

I totally agree about not visiting Grauman's before then. The first time I went to Hollywood, Grauman's was the first place I went. Lucy and the Mertzes did go to the Brown Derby when they first arrived. Wasn't that only just a couple blocks from Grauman's? And if their Hotel was in Beverly Hills as they claimed -- which it wasn't, because they view outside their hotel window places them directly in the middle of Hollywood -- they would have had to have passed by Grauman's to get to the Brown Derby. Were they that hungry that they had to pass by there without stopping?

Well, to their credit, they did say it was quick-drying cement, not regular cement. However, that cement seems to have dried in seconds, and I would think even quick-drying cement couldn't dry that fast.

Not to mention the fact that Lil Ricky was also playing in it which would have been very scary indeed, if it dried that fast i mean, LOL!

We can obviously agree that the Beverly Hills Hotel was an error since we could see the HOLLYWOOD sign from their balcony. But you are right, they were supposed to be smack in the middle of "everything." Remember when Lucy's mother first arrived, Lucy was pointing out everything to her, as if everything was viewable from their balcony, did she point out Graumann's Chinese to her mom in that scene? I can't recall right now.

I don't think they were supposed to be using the quick-drying cement for John Wayne's footprints in that second episode. They were using the quick-drying stuff in the first episode because they wanted to make sure it dried as quickly as possible so nobody would notice anything had been stolen. But by the second episode, the cat was out of the bag, so there was no reason to use quick-drying cement any longer.
