Okay, so I've had this explained to me several times, but I can still never understand. What exactly is "emo" music or "emo" in general? Short for emotion or emotional, right? From what I know it's self-professed rockers singing and whining about bleeding hearts and such. So then which bands would be considered emo? Fall Out Boy? Good Charlotte? Simple Plan? Snow Patrol? << I like all those bands!!! I'm so confused! And why is it not cool or looked down upon to be emo?? I never quite got that...
Not that it'll change the way I view music or the music that I listen to or anything, I've just always wondered what people considered "emo" since it's become such a common label. I never really know anymore. I guess being out of high school for five years gets you out of touch!

I think the term emo has extremely gotten out of hand. Emo was around when I was a teen and it was nothing what is being passed as "emo" today. People don't wanna use the word "alternative" these days, either they wanna call it "emo" or "indie rock". Many of the bands considered emo today would've been considered "punk-pop" ten years ago. Seriously, people insist on calling Fall Out Boy emo, but what's so much different about FOB from the "punk pop" label stylings that Blink 182 and Green Day had ten years ago?

See that's what I thought...how is the music stylings of FOB different than Green Day? I never got that. It seems like people are so quick to label these days. Granted, Green Day is a lengendary band, but still...the genre of music is the same, right?
And why is it such a bad thing to be emo? |
