LOL-seems like whenever i'm online and I ask a girl what IM she has 98% of them say YAHOO or AOL
No one ever says MSN. Why is that?? I'm just curious? Why is it Yahoo or AOL? |

I have MSN.....I think the problem is that theres no way really , to connect with other peeps on MSN since they took down their chatrooms
.....back when I had my own MSN chatroom, I had 65 contacts and talked to pretty much all of them, now, I think theres maybe 5 left that still open their MSN more than once a month! But, since Yahoo and AOL still have chatrooms, theres more people on their IMs.

No, I pretty much only use MSN. I have AIM too and I'm usually signed in there but it's only for the very few people I talk to who don't use MSN.
It's the best as far as I'm concerned, and it has nothing to do with AOL. |

I have MSN Messenger... been using it for nearly 10 years now. But I don't use the actual MSN Messenger interface. I connect to MSN thru Trillian and have done so for about the last two years now. Far less loaded down with crap like MSN (seriously, the hell? Nudging someone or sending them winks?).
I barely used AIM for the past five years, but I've been using it a LOT more as of the last few months. |

I have Yahoo, MSN was annoying because it would pop up everytime I would turn on my computer, so I took it off. So now I just use Yahoo mainly because I use it on my cell phone.

All I use is only MSN Messenger (a.k.a. Windows Live Messenger). I have a lot of people in my list, but not very many send me IMs anymore. Ahem....That's a hint for those of you who in are in my list to send me a message and check in on me every now and then. I'd love to hear from you!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have an MSN messenger, but I never use it. I also have a Yahoo and a Google Talk, but I rarely use those either.
![]() My favorite IM service is AIM, simply because 99% of my friends primarily use that...I find that people outside of the US prefer MSN or Yahoo. I haven't signed on in a while though. I go through spurts of constant IMing and then not IMing at all....it's weird lol. |

Lots of Canadians I talk to have MSN... Never understood why it was so popular there... Mikey??
I have it but I only use it to talk to said Canadian friends lol. Basically I use AIM or Yahoo cause thats what all my friends use. So its pretty pointless to use MSN when hardly no one I know uses it.. And besides with MSN you can IM people on yahoo and vice versa now. So you can talk to anyone who has Yahoo on MSN. |

Unfortunately Soloman, the simple answer is there are more users on AIM. AOL/AIM still has the #1 spot in marketshare at 53 million, compared to #2 Microsoft/Windows Live Network (MSN/WLM), at 27.2 million. Yahoo was in third place. This is all as of a September 2006 Nielsen/Netratings survey, which was the most recent one I could find. The trend for AIM has been downward, and its safe to say that it's lost more users since then, but I'd venture it's still in first place.
WHY it's in first place is another subject. I avoid AOL products like the binary plague they are (yet another subject), and I'm not alone - AOL's share has dropped dramatically since 2000. I imagine AIM, being a standalone and somewhat less insidious product, has been slower to decay because people are used to it. It should be noted that you do not have to use AIM to use their network (I certainly don't) - there are multitudes of freeware applications out there that will do that for you - two of my favorites are Pidgin (formerly GAIM) & Miranda IM. & brieannas21 - You should be able to turn off auto-start inside MSN's preferences. afaik, almost all IM applications do this, or have the option to do it. |
