Maybe because in the kitchen, they could see them through the window whereas in the living room, they could have been making whoopie in the bedroom and not hear them come in? LOL!

Okay, so if they looked in through the kitchen window did they come in IF they saw them? Because if they came in either way, then what would the difference be? They could still catch them.

It was the fifties, they only made love in bed, and certainly NOT on the kitchen table, that came much later, like even past Here's Lucy, LOL!

Yeah well, i picked up that particular tidbit in The Lucy book, i think it quoted Betty Furness as she was always near a kitchen appliance and had seen it all for herself, LOL!

Actually a lot of Claude's ideas were what I was going to say too...I think he nailed it right on the head.
The kitchen was informal, the living room was formal. One, the kitchen, you can walk right into, the other, the living room, you should knock, except as Irene pointed out, maybe if it was the middle of the day or if they had already been going in and out of the Ricardos apartment a couple of times that day.

Now that you mention that; it is hard to imagine at what time of the day they would be 'making it'. Ricky was at the 'clob' most of the night and during the day the Mertzes were in and out of the apt. Most of the time Lucy was scheming so most of her energy was wasted on that.
Makes you wonder how Little Ricky really got here!!

Well, that's the point really, you can't always see what's going on in the living room, but often you CAN thru the kitchen window, LOL! I love that pic in your avatar of Shelley Winters decorated for Christams on Roseanne's show, LOL!
