Default Should the Golden Girls should have acted their age?

With the exception of Blanche, Rose, Dorothy and sophia all acted like they were 40 years younger. Blanche obviously thought she was young. but the reat of them, went around dating and looking for Mr. right like they were 20 years old. Evertime I watch an episode seeing them talk about men, I wanted to say, "act your age, your time is ticking!" LOL

I think that is what made the show funny. Here are these women who are older and not "Friends" age, etc. It goess to show that no matter your age, you are almost always trying to be the age you are not. Young pre-teen girls try to act older, older women do what they can to be younger. You can call it desperation or you can call it "having a good time." I'd like to call it having a good time trying to find men.

I didn't mind seeing Sophia date, she was usually funny no matter what she did.

I think they acted their ages for single women. Hell, doesn't matter what age you are, its all in HOWyou feel!

I say if the mind and body's still willing and able, then GO FOR IT!!

Seriously though, I think we're aging at a slower rate than previous generations. You look at most people today in midlife and they're out there still doing things our parents would have never done.

Anyday - at any age - above ground is a good one!

I loved that they acted "young"!!

It gave me hope for my own old age. I want to be active and involved in all aspects of life, as they are on the show

I thought that was part of the appeal of The Golden Girls. You finally saw women in their 60's (and older in Sophia's case) who actually weren't letting age get to them. None of them were "old lady" stereotypes, none of them had dentures, none of them did nothing but crochet all day, none of them sat around and baked cookies all the time. No, these were all lively women, who just happened to be old enough to be the mothers of most characters on television at the time.

I agree!! I was just going to say...besides some sort of outdated 1950's stereotype, I think they did act their age. I mean, they dressed appropriately for their ages...no tube tops or miniskirts...they had hairdos appropriate for their ages, you never saw them doing things that were out of place for them or things only people in their 20's spend their leisure time doing except for when it came to men, and even then they were persuing men of their own age (even Blanche!). And who's to say that senior citizens aren't allowed to want the companionship of the opposite sex? What's that saying...there may be snow on the rooftop but that doesn't mean there isn't a fire in the fireplace?
