Default Favorite movie studio logos

Someone put up a favorite TV studio logo thread, so, i thought id make a compagnon thread

My fave movie studio logo belonged to the studio that gave us among other things, King Kong , Citizen Kane and Lucille Ball.........years later, when RKO went under, RKO became Lucy's Desilu Studios.....Today, its a television production lot, again using the RKO name!

^ Those old RKO newsreel logos have always freaked me out for some reason. So do certain test patterns. Don't ask me why.

I've always liked this one:

The letters spun around the mirrored sphere and reflected on it, as did all the stars around the "globe" (Really cool to see, i think it was last used on "Young Frankenstein" some 30 years after it was abandonned)

Columbia's "Sunburst" film logo of the '70's, with or without music. The one with music (the music was composed by Suzanne Ciani, who also did the CPT jingle of that time) is one of my favorites, because as the camera moves towards the torch, the music builds up; when the essence of the torch (the Sunburst) is shown, the music then turns somewhat inspirational and majestic as the Sunburst is whittled down from the original 26 rays to the 13 that fit into the blue crescent. While the Sunburst is whittled down, oddly enough, the blue crescent can be seen forming at the same time if you look closely enough.

The early version of the '80's Torch Lady (which started in 1981, I think) had some Sunburst in it, but that time, the camera did not move towards the torch to reveal the Sunburst; rather, the Torch slowly opened up, revealing a Sunburst that was attached to the Torch Lady. The Torch then dimmed back, and the "Columbia Pictures" name appeared, one part on each side of the Lady. At one time, perhaps early in its run, as an editing goof, the '80's Torch Lady used Suzanne Ciani's music from the '70's logo. This logo was somewhat weakened, however, late in the run, when it was changed to having the "Columbia Pictures" name simply appearing in position without benefit of the Sunburst reveal.

One more that I have enjoyed is that of Paramount's "Blue Mtn.," and it was short, but simple-- first, the mountain, then the stars, then the "Paramount A Gulf+Western Company" text over the mountain, and then the background change from a mountain scene to the finished logo, a Blue Mtn. with two shades of blue.

Ditto.

"Film producer Samuel Goldwyn sought an instantly recognizable symbol for his
studio, Goldwyn Pictures Corporation, incorporated in 1916. He consulted
advertising expert Philip Goodman who asked his new employee Howard Dietz
to develop the corporate logo.

"The film company obtained its first live Leo from an animal farm in Gilette,
Pennsylvania, and used the lion to promote its films. The image of this lion was used in all Goldwyn movies released after 1921.

"In 1924, Metro Pictures, Goldwyn Pictures Corporation, and Louis B. Mayer
Productions merged to rorm Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Leo was kept as the
focal point of the new company's logo, but the lion was shown full face
rather than in profile. MGM obtained its own live lion in 1927, and in 1928
the roar of a lion named Pluto was recorded for the distinctive MGM trademark.

"MGM's Leo went on the road for promotional appearances."

I love the MGM lion roaring! Thanks for the history lesson, TV Star Collector!
I also love the Castlerock logo with the lighthouse beam crossing the screen.

I love the Tri Star with the horse running toward the screen.

Here are some more that I like...

One more that I have enjoyed is that of the "\\'" of Warner Bros.-- that is to say, the one where a reddish "\\'" comes forward against a black screen (w/Warner Bros. under it), and then the viewer goes through this "\\'" to reveal a white "\\'" that stops in the middle of a red background; a black, oblong TV-tube-like shape then fades in around the "\\'", then a byline such like "A Warner Communications Company presents" fades in under the completed logo.
