Sarah Michelle Gellar Nixes 'Buffy' Movie - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Former Buffy The Vampire Slayer star Sarah Michelle Gellar has ruled out starring in a movie adaptation of her hit TV show - because she finds the prospect too terrifying.

The series, which ran for six years, was originally adapted from the 1992 film of the same name which starred Kristy Swanson in the title role - but Gellar insists she would never take part in a second big screen version.

Gellar is convinced the show's ending was good enough and it would be hard to better its conclusion.

She tells Moviehole.net, "I have to be honest. That thought really scares me. Buffy was a movie and it didn't work because her story was longer than that. This was about a girl that you had to get to know and it took so long to figure out how to crack the ending so that people weren't upset. Of course I never say never, so I'm not saying no, but my fear would be to open something like that up again, to only end it again."

A couple of points

1. The series ran 7 years (or 6.5, considering the short 1st season.)

2. The show's ending sucked. The entire last season was bad, and the sixth season was a decidedly mediocre one that was redeemed by spots of brilliance (OMWF, Dark Willow arc).

3. I do have to agree with SMG on one thing though - a movie would be a bad idea because there is no place to take it that wouldn't require a full TV season to adequately tell the story.

I don't think there should be a movie. For a while after the show ended I wanted one, but now it just doesn't seem like a good idea. I agree with Sarah.

By the way, I thought the sixth season was amazing from start to finish.

The Seventh Season would've been so much better w/out all those little potential Slayers running around. Anyways, I'm also pretty glad that she said no.

Those "Potentials" were horrible.
