--In order from favorite to least favorite--
Season 5 -- 5 Stars Season 4 -- 5 Stars Season 3 -- 5 Stars Season 6 -- 5 Stars (HATED the new Becky though) Season 2 -- 5 Stars --As you can see, seasons 2-6 were Roseanne's best years in my opinion-- Season 1 -- 4 Stars (actors a bit stiff, still getting into their roles/flow...humor not as witty or clever) Season 8 -- 3.5 Stars (a few really good episodes, some pretty bad ones too) Season 7 -- 3 Stars (some good episodes, some pretty bad ones, Roseanne was too mean--divorce battle will do that to you) Season 9 -- 1.5 Stars (WTF happened?) |

Season 5 was probably the most Darlene-centric season, which is why it's my favourite. Closely followed by 3 and 4.

Seasons 4,5,3: Brilliant, genius, five stars... Complex, adult storylines and the acting was unstoppable.
Season 2,1: Really wonderful, two a bit better than one Season 6: Flawed only by the new becky who was a horrible actress, Im sorry Season 7,8: Starting to get a bit stale Season 9: Oh my! But those first 6 seasons made the show the classic it is today in my view, and seasons four and five were masterpieces as far as I'm concerned. |

I like seasons 1-4 and first 2 episodes of season 5, as original Becky makes her exit. After this, I didn't regularly watch. First, the core family unit had been broken, as well as the fact I thought these were the best actors on the show. Also, to men the show lost its objective to tell a story about a modern, very realistic family when Becky left. Subsequent seasons featured god-awful characters more, like the insufferable Nancy, Bev and David. It just wasn't the same show for me after Becky left. The show became raunchy, non funny and lost its core values. Not that I liked Becky or Darlene...they were horrific little snots...but that was the show's core characters and the form;a I liked best. So...season 4 was my favorite, and the 2-parter from season 5.

Yes, Becky and Darlene were brats, but I wouldn't have it any other way. |

Wow this is tough. This show was so good the first 5 seasons. Excellent sitcoms like All In The Family and Golden Girls are big hits right away. However, the show gets better when the cast gets seasoned and dive into their characters. For example I think season 2 of Golden Girls and season 2 of All in the family is better than season 1. Roseanne is very similar. They are all so good.
I would say season 3 is best then 2 then 1. Then I would go with season 4, 5, 6, etc. Roseanne is so rare that adding new characters in later seasons never hurt the show. It most sitcoms new characters in later seasons is the kiss of death. But the new characters prevented the show from getting stale. Extremely rare and was one of the few shows that could do this with success. |
