NBC Fires Most Of 'SNL' Staff - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

NBC has reportedly fired "nearly the entire production staff" on TV show Saturday Night Live following the Hollywood writers strike. Staff working on the hit program learned of their fate on Friday, according to reports.

One source tells New York gossip column PageSix, "Saturday Night Live laid off all their staff until further notice. Their production staff, even long-term employees, were let go."

A spokesman for NBC refused to comment.

On Friday Studio Universal Media Studios informed the casts of hit TV shows 30 Rock, Bionic Woman and The Office - including actor Alec Baldwin - that they will be suspended on half-pay for five weeks.

Strikes by member of the Writers Guild of America have disrupted production across the industry effecting TV favorites including Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy as well as several high profile late night talk shows.

However, Late Show host David Letterman has reportedly told his staff he will pay them out of his own pocket over the holidays if the strike continues.

this could bode well for SNL. I honestly think it's time Lorne Michaels pulls a '85 or '95 again and gets rid of the tired cast we have now and start with some fresh new blood

So the studio wouldn't have to pay them for NOT working. They're laid off for 5 weeks, I believe. Most of them will probably come back. Same goes for the cast's of 30 Rock and The Office.

The cast's of 30 Rock and The Office were suspended by their studio this past week. The suspension, as well as having their pay cut in half, will last for 5 weeks!

At the end of the 5 week period, if they'd like, the actors themselves can terminate their deals with the studio. The studio can decide if they want to keep all the actors (with full pay), or end their deals with the actors. This means the actors can move on to other projects and when the strike finally ends, the actors themselves are the only ones that will decide if they want to go back to their shows.

I hope it all works out in the end. 30 Rock and The Office wouldn't be the same with any of their cast members missing.
