If BTY can successfully mix home and office scenes, the shows will be similar.
MTM had two main settings -- the newsroom and Mary's apartment. It seems possible that a similar mix may be in store for BTY, with the newsroom and Kelly's house being the main settings. With MTM, frequently Mary's newsroom coworkers ended up at her place to sort through their life issues, many of which were work related. It could be possible that Kelly's house could be a similar hub. Chuck's place may also end up being a focal point, but Kelly's house seems more likely to draw the most focus because Gracie lives there. It's interesting how some shows can make different settings work. For instance, All in the Family, Barney Miller, Good Times, Sanford and Son, etc. had basically one setting for the PRIME years of those shows. But other shows like The Bob Newhart Show, MTM, Everybody Loves Raymond, etc. worked primarily from two main settings. Frasier during MOST of its run had three main settings -- the radio station, Frasier's place, and the coffee shop. It will be interesting to see what mix of main settings BTY finally goes with. |

I'm not too sure. MTM seems like a completely different show. MTM had a lot more home scenes (almost every episode had the home set as the MAIN set (especially in the first season), whereas Back to You has only had a few of it's episodes have home season. Also, MTM had Phyllis and Rhoda with Mary at the house. They jsut seem a lot different to me.

BTY has the same vibe as MTM. I think it has what it takes to be a successful ensemble comedy like MTM.

I'd be hesitant to compare it with anything right now. My hope, is that BTY can stand on its own as a great ensemble show.

It's always going to be compared to other workplace sitcoms, but hopefully Back To You can make it's own mark one day. And nice avatar Brian!
