Programming Alert for West Coasters: Franklin Delano Floyd might be on in 10 minutes

I'm not totally sure how the time zone thing works with satelitte tv, but as I understand it, it should air in a few minutes out there, as it aired a few hours ago here out East. It's on Court TV. The forum is dead right now, but there might be some lurkers out there, so just thought I would give a heads up.

I watched at least half of it last night. Just 25 to 30 minutes into the show, Unsolved Mysteries is briefly mentioned.

Ok, I had to rewatch the UM segment because I didn't want to duplicate anything from there and instead focus on stuff that wasn't mentioned in the UM segment.

There was a lot of new stuff that gives the viewer a much clearer picuture as to how sick and twisted Frank Delano Floyd is.

They said that Sharon Marshall garnered a bad reputation as a stripper and a prositute (Floyd was her pimp), but she was actually an excellent student, graduated with honors from her high school and got a scholarship to Georgia Tech.

Floyd was in possession of child pornography.

I think the UM segment said that Floyd got a 52 year sentence for kidnapping, which may not actually be true. The 52 year sentence was for a murder that he was found guilty of. It was a lady named Cheryl, who worked with Sharon at a strip club. Her remains were found in Florida and it was determined she was shot twice, and in addition may have suffered from blunt force trauma. Sheryl and Floyd were seen arguing on the night she disappeared. It was believed that Floyd killed Cheryl in front of Sharon in order to send her a warning, as if to say to her "if you try to get away or disobey me, this is what will happen." Floyd had taken pictures of Cheryl as he was beating her. A witness positively identified a couch and a doorknob that was in one of the photographs. Additionally, a thumb was in one of the pictures as the person that took the picture had to take it with one hand and restrain Cheryl with the other. It was a very distinctive looking thumb, and it matched with Floyd's thumb. This was enough to convince the jurors to send him to prison.

Yes the book about the case does a good job showing the kind of person Sharon Marshall was. It is so sad yet inspiring how she could excel so much in her life when a monster like that was raising (and no doubt molesting) her.

My heart breaks for her...but why didn't she get away when she had ample opportunities? If not for herself, then why not for her son?

Stockholm Syndrome? IIRC he was her step-father and did raise her (albeit he molested her, probably beat her, and what not) and was the father of her child...maybe she felt some sort of loyalty to him?

It's sad to hear she was such an intelligent woman but now strong enough to escape when she had the chance.

It was determined that Franklin Delano Floyd was not the birth father (correct term?) of Michael Hughes, although he did raise him as his own.

As I stated above, Franklin was found guilty of the murder of a woman named Cheryl. It was believed that Franklin killed Cheryl in front of Sharon, as if to send her a warning like "if you try to get away, I will do this to you." This is probably why people like Sharon Marshall and Shawn Hornbeck did not try to escape.

Just to clarify, Floyd was not technically Sharon Marshall's stepfather. He abducted or otherwise "acquired" her sometime in the early 70s. Her DNA is on file and has been cross-checked with many missing girls from that time period, so far with no matches. He raised her as his child, but it was a twisted arrangement. On the one hand, he acted like the proud father and supported her throughout her academic successes. On the other hand, he molested her, keeping photographic evidence of this, pimped her out, and later married her. He probably murdered her. After her death, when her son was taken into state custody, Floyd abducted the boy from his school, and the boy has never been seen again. Floyd has said that he drowned the boy in a bathtub, but he's also said that he gave the boy to others to raise.

Floyd is a sick, twisted man who ruined Sharon Marshall/Suzanne Davis's life. God knows how many people he molested and/or killed. If you can stomach it and want to learn more, there is a great book called A Beautiful Child by Matt Birkbeck that tells all about the life and death of the mysterious "Sharon Marshall."

I believe Sharon did not try to escape because that was the only life she knew. She had been involved with Floyd since she was a very little girl, maybe as young as 3 or 4. She had been used by so many ways by Floyd; I wouldn't be surprised if he kept his hold on her by telling her that she was just as guilty as he was in some of the things he forced her into.
