Episode 3:
Innocense for Sale?

By Wednsday evening Jo was at her wit's end about Ramon wanting not just her but Tootie to work for him in an underground prostitution ring that he ran on Eastland campus. Jo didn't speak to Louise or Ramon for two days while she tried to figure out what to do next. Although she was from the Bronx and pimps and hookers were nothing new to her it had never hit home in such a distressing manner for her. Jo wanted desperately wanted to tell Mrs. Garrett but she stuck to her guns and avoided any possibility of blowing her cover.

After consulting Detective Edwards about the situation Rick told Jo to avoid involving anyone in this at any cost. Not only would it jepordise the bust but blow both of their covers. Jo listened to Rick but was finally confronted by Ramon and Louise after final period.

"Avoiding anyone in particular?" Ramon said behind Jo's back startling her.

"Oh not at all. In fact I was just looking for you guys!"

"Don't give me that Polneczek. We know you haven't been around at all lately." Louise said.

"C'mon gimme a break here. You can't expect me to get someone to agree to this kind of thing just like that."

"So is that girl in?"

"I dangled it in front of her and she just won't bite," Jo lied.

Unimpressed Ramon got nasty. "You get her in or you are gonna have a nice smile cut into your throat to match the one on your face."

"I'll do my best!" Jo said and was a bit scared and rattled by the experience. Ramon and Louise both walked away without anyone noticing.

Jo finally decided to go down to the locker room to bug it out of fear that she may not get another chance. When she got down there she encountered some of the younger girls who were to work for Ramon that night. Exhasperated and driven to nausia by the assignment Jo finally decided to talk to the other working girls.

"Hey Jo!" one of the girls said.

"How ya doin'." Jo answered.

"Pretty good."

"Can I ask ya a question you guys?"

"Sure!"

"Why do you... you know, do this kind of thing?"

"Extra money, college tuition isn't cheap you know. None of us have boyfriends and it's nice to feel like somebody wants you. You know what I mean?"

"I see. If you are 25 years old and want to do that kind of thing that's fine because you are old enough to make your on decisions no matter how boneheaded they may be but don't you think you are a bit young for this?"

"If you've got it, flaunt it!"

"Don't you want to still have it to flaunt when you're in high school?"

"I can't get high school guys to notice me now, what makes you think that's going to change when I'm your age?"

"Wait a second. Are ya callin' me old?"

"If the undies fit..."

"Hang on a sec here. Neither of us are anywhere near old okay? I'm just sayin' that the quicker ya grow up, the quicker ya get old and the quicker ya die. Is it worth it?"

The girls were speachless at this outburst and didn't answer.

"Look, I'm sure you're good kids and if you continue to hang with scum like Ramon you're gonna get hurt for it. I suggest you come in on Friday night a little late."

"Why Jo?"

"Because Ramon is in a pretty rotten mood and avoiding him will keep you from gettin' hurt." Jo lied under pressure.

The girls finished getting dressed and went to their assigned hotel rooms in other areas of Peekskill while Jo planted the bug.

Jo went back to Detective Edwards to let him know that the bug was planted. However, Rick had one last request for Jo.

"Jo I know how much you want to see this dirtbag go down so I have one last thing I want you to do for me."

"I'm listenin!"

"You will have to go in like you are going to work for Ramon Friday night. You will be covered by backup officers who will be behind the door and you can officially flash the badge and place them all under arrest. At that point the uniform cops will slap the cuffs on Ramon and the others. Hopefully there will be a few Johns with a few of the girls and we can get some of them as well."

"Remember what I said about the young ones pal."

"If they aren't doing anything they won't be arrested but will be asked to give statements for trial."

"I already told a few of them to come around late so they won't get hurt but there's no guarantee's that this will happen."

"Fair enough but remember the law is the law and even I can't play favorites."

"What about Tootie? If I don't bring her I'm supposedly a dead man err girl err whatever."

"Have you spoken to her about this at all"

"No."

"Good, keep her out of this at all costs. Ramon won't have the guts to approach her himself or risk blowing his own cover so you will have been able to protect her at least."

"How will I be able to defend myself though? NOW can I have a gun?"

"NO!"

"Again, had to ask."

Friday morning and afternoon came and went quickly for Jo as she prepared for the evening when she would get to put Ramon and his pretty suits and rolexes on Riker's Island. She met Rick and the uniformed officers at the rendezvous point just outside the gym. Instructions were given and Jo headed over to the locker room. The girls Jo talked to before were just heading to the locker room when Jo stopped them.

"Where do ya think you're goin?"

"Where does it look like we're going?"

"Take another step and you will be whistlin for taxi's through you're ears." Jo threatened while shaking her fist and the girls ran away!

She entered the locker room and to her dismay she heard a lot of grunts and groans in the shower and in the coach's office that was being used for sex services. With the bugs going well recording all the transactions and no Ramon to be found she felt mischievious! Quickly Jo went and activated all the sprinkler systems in the locker room. She knew that one lit cigarette from Ramon would set off the ice cold water of the sprinklers!

Ramon finally entered the room with a lit cigarette and asked Jo where Tootie was. As he exhaled the smoke from his mouth the sprinklers went off!

"Tootie's someplace dry Ramon!"

At that point Jo flashed the badge and in came the Peekskill PD to arrest everyone! Jo was soaking wet but with a huge smile on her face from a job well done. As Ramon was being read his rights and taken away Jo came to him and said;

"Say Ramon, if anything happens to you while at Rikers could I have yer watch? My dad has always wanted an imitation Rolex to show off to his buddies!"

The next Eastland Undercover I am fiddling with at the moment is one where Jo has to go undercover as a boy at Bates Acadamy. This would include weird situations like her posing as a boy at a school dance that includes Bates and Eastland!

Hopefully it will come out right!
