Does anyone else hate Universal's horrible DVD jobs? I have Beaver #1 and 2, Munsters # 1 and 2, and Dragnet '67 from them and they're awful! First, you have to zip through annoying 'Previews' at the beginning, the double sided discs, and they seem to cram too much on a disc. Oh, and you have to watch their "Universal" bit at the beginning of each episode too. Of the four main DVD companies (Paramount, Sony, Warner, and Universal), they are definately the worst.

Maybe I'm being too hard...but why are they so cheap like that?

I agree. Universal is definitely a step behind the other companies. I have Coach S1 and S2. The S1 is OK because I have the limited edition packaging which was pretty cool, but S2 is poor packaging. They used 2 regular DVD cases instead of slim cases and there are 10 episodes per disc. Even for new shows like The Office, they are behind the times. They use cheap packaging including overlapping discs. Also, the menus for The Office S3 have a glitch with the audio in the background. Their quality-control must be pretty poor.

Of all the TV DVDs I have, I think Fox does the best job overall. The packaging is sleek, the episodes are spread out logically across the discs and there are an adequate amount of extras.

Sony is really a big question mark in my opinion. The Seinfeld sets are awesome, but for King of Queens, they only have extras on S1 and S2 and they crammed too many episodes on a disc in the early seasons although for the later ones, they did a better job.

I hate double sided discs--they're so cheesy

I've heard there were complaints with disc 1 or 2 of Adam-12.

Universal has improved dramatically since they abandoned double-sided discs AND ditched the overplay of their current fanfare and started restoring the classic Universal tags. Presentation wise I have no complaints with how they do things now.

Fox though, with their stubborn persistence in doing DVD-14s and often senselessly like in the Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea sets with two episodes on one side and one episode on the flip side is hands down the worst. ANY studio that still uses double sided discs of any kind is out of their minds.

that's the good thing about renting DVDs from Netflix; they don't rent double-sided ones.
