Eastland Undercover Episode 2 - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

EPISODE 2:
The first Assignment

Monday morning saw Jo head off to class as usual. The one thing that was unusual was her new role as an undercover detective for the Peekskill Police Department. Still, she hadn't heard from Detective Edwards in a few days. Rather then worry about someone who she had a hunch was simply trying to help Roy score with her she went to her first class of the morning. Much to her shock there was Detective Edwards teaching Biology. He was of course there undercover as well to help Jo and to give her her assignments. Still he was clearly trying to embarrass her with the pink and blue plaid polyester suit he was wearing.

After class and one too many cracks about his suit Detective Edwards asked Jo to stay after class. Blair cracked that Jo prefered men covered in motor oil and coveralls. Jo shot back that Blair would be dipped in chrome if she didn't watch her mouth.

When everyone had left the classroom Rick locked the door and began briefing Jo:

"Here's your assignment Jo," he said while handing her a file with some photos.

"It's about time pal. What's this about?"

"We have reason to believe that there is a prostitution ring being run in Eastland."

"Yeah right. The only prostitution I have seen is the richest of the filthy rich getting the highest grades when they look like they can't even read."

"Well Jo our survailance crew has been staking out the locker rooms..."

"I BET you have you perverts."

"Jo we began staking out the locker rooms when we discovered some middle aged men being led into them after hours. We have also discovered some phoney grade transcripts and photos of girls who appear to be attending this school as a cover for the operation while recruitng current Eastland girls to work for them. We need you to investigate the operation. As a scholarship student they will have no reason to suspect you. Get in, get all the info you can and get out as quickly as you came and we will make the arrests. Is this understood?"

"You expect ME to pose as a hooker?"

"Not exactly, we need you to get close to these people and find out as much as you can. If it ultimately means infiltrating the actual prostitution ring to get more info we will cross that bridge when we get to it but contact me as soon as it appears to come to that." Rick said as he handed Jo some photos of the suspects.

"All right but remember, I aint working for NO pimp pal."

"Understood."

Jo then left the classroom for her next class of which she was late so she had detention. While in detention she encountered her first suspect. It was a senior named Louise Stanton, like Jo from the Bronx. Jo noticed that she looked considerable older then the 18 years she claimed to be. The 2 hit it off rather quickly and Jo was let into her world.

Jo was extremely nervous for dispite her tough exterior had never been in a situation like this before. Still, she was able to hide this fear rather well as she asked about what she was being exposed to.

"What do you girls do here when you get together?"

"This is where we work Jo. We do this to make a few extra bucks here and there." Louise responded as she led Jo downstairs to the locker room."

Jo went with her and to her suprise were a mixture of seniors, freshmen, juniors and junior high school students. Although many were clearly in their 20's and as old as 30 there were a number of girls that were friends with Natalie and Tootie. This shocked Jo and she had a very difficult time hiding the disgust on her face.

"Girls, meet Jo! She might be working with us soon."

"Hi Jo." The girls said in unison.

"Man, it's the Pussycat Theater cheerleading squad!" Jo thought to herself.

After the introductions were exchanged a strange man walked into the room from the washroom. He was a man in his 30's with a nice Versace suit and a gold Rolex watch on. He also had what appeared to be a holster under his suspenders. He introduced himself to Jo and extended his hand.

"Hello Jo, my name is Ramon."

"My pleasure, I guess." Jo answered and didn't shake his hand.

"I look forward to seeing you work." Ramon answered feeling offended.

Jo made a comment about feeling a bit queezy and asked to go see the nurse. The group allowed it and she left. After running as fast as she could to the dorms, which were empty since it was still last period. Rick was in the kitchen flirting with Mrs. Garrett. She reacted with this:

"Mrs. Garrett, I need to borrow the polyester prince here if that's okay."

"I'll go upstairs and freshen up!"

"Why Edna, I think you look as alluring as ever as you are!" Rick exclaimed.

"Goodbye Mrs. Garrett, see ya later."

After Mrs. Garrett left the kitchen Jo sat Detective Edwards down and told him everything she saw.

"That's great and quick work Jo!"

"I almost puked at the sight of 'Ramon' but at least you know this flesh stand exists for sure."

"Good work Jo, now what we need from you is to find a dead spot in the room so we can bug it. At that point this may be all we need to make a bust."

"Look Rick, I hate that scumbag as much as you guys do but please leave the younger ones out of this. Natalie and Tootie know some of these girls. Who knows what this Ramon guy does to them to keep them in line?."

"We can only guarantee that we will press charges where they are warrented Jo. This is a very serious buisness and we plan on putting away Ramon and his conspirators for as long as we can. If you ask me they should send the lot of the Ramons of the world to Riker's Island and throw away the key."

"I'll do my best to help you out but I want to protect the younger ones."

"Jo, do what you have to do but remember that you acting as an officer of the PPD."

As their conversation winded down Louise was entering the cafeteria with some of the other girls.

"Hi Mister Edwards! Hey Jo can you come over here for a second?" Louise asked.

"Yeah yeah yeah I'll be right there!"

"Remember Louise, pages 28-35 by tommorow!"

"Consider it done Mister Edwards! By the way I LOOOOVE the suit!"

Rick smiled and left the dormatory. After he left Jo came over to Louise's table with the other girls. Louise started the conversation:

"Jo I just had a conversation with the other girls and we all agree that you should work with us!"

"Lucky me." Jo said rolling her eyes.

"Ramon said to be at the locker room Friday night at 8:00pm. He also said he wants you to bring one of your roomates."

"Suuuure, I'll bring Blair when her daddy goes bankrupt which could happen sooner then later with his tax situation."

"Actually Jo, Ramon had this girl in mind." Louise said as she passed Jo a photo. Jo was shocked to find that the girl that wanted her to bring was Tootie.

Thanks for the feedback! I will do my best to have a new chapter ready sometime tomorrow! This assignment will probably be 3 chapters but may be as short as 2.

I have lots of ideas for future Jo cop stories. (I may even bring the space alien into the story!)

Do you have any suggestions? I will see if I can't incorperate them into the next chapter!

Just to let y'all know Eastland Undercover Episode 3 will be up late tonight. (I'm going out with my girlfriend so I won't be able to have it up sooner.)

As good as this story is I feel it's a wee bit heavy handed. It is very close to how Jo would really handle the situation as she was always very tactfull on the show. Still, I do plan on livening it up a bit in future assignments. Stay tuned!
