Interesting article. This person also is claiming the "uh-oh" is Dede, further stating that where she sat in the audience her voice would have gotten picked up, which is the very opposite of what Gregg Oppenheimer claims. Hmm.

That was very interesting. About the uh oh lady, I wonder who is right? That person or Gregg Oppenheimer.

My bet goes with Gregg. His father was there. Bart Andrews, and the people who perpetuate his stories, wasn't. Among other things, Bart Andrews also claimed Lucie Arnaz was in "The Ricardos Dedicate a Statue" episode along with her brother and that Vivian Vance was a year younger than Lucille Ball. Neither is true.

I don't think DeDe was the Uh-Oh Lady. Bart Andrews also blew Vivian's birthdate! He listed it as July 26, 1912, which would make her a year younger than Lucy. Actually Viv was born in 1909 and Lucy was born in 1911.

When writing an important book about people's lives, how can you screw up a basic fact like a birthdate? Amazing!

I totally agree with you, Madame X. The "Uh-oh" was so obviously a laughtrack. Each episode you heard it in, it sounds exactly the same. There's no way DeDe or anyone in the audience sitting near the mic can produce a repeatable "Uh-oh" EVERY time!

They may have had DeDe record that "Uh-oh" sound. But, Bart's explaination of her being the recurring live sound is false, which looses his credibility on that subject...."Uh-oh, Bart, you've got some splainin' to do!"

Not only that, I am certain that I have heard that "uh-oh" on some other show. I can't swear, but I am pretty sure I heard it somewhere else and I was floored.

While reading this post, I had remembered something. During the late 80s or early 90s, Desi Arnaz Jr. had made a guest appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show. I remember him saying something like, if you remember hearing a laugh from time to time that sounded like "Curly" from The Three Stooges, that was my grandmother, DeDe. I think he even imitated the laugh.

Yes you have! I've heard it too! It was all over some of those Desilu shows like December Bride. But I've heard it on other sitcoms from the 60s as well. I can't think of any names at the moment, but I know I've heard it.

I agree. I love his book. It's a great resource. But there are still these obvious, glaring mistakes. Another I remember from the original version of his book, he claimed that "The Diet" was the first episode filmed. Now that's a BIG mistake. Of course, he later corrected that. But for years, I was believing that was the first episode. And because, for many years his book was the only one about I Love Lucy, people sort of annointed it the I Love Lucy Bible, and other authors used it in writing their books, which caused these myths, like Viv being born in 1912, to continue to get perpetuated. Even to this day!

I think Lucie and Desi were on Oprah talking about their project "Lucy and Desi: A Home Movie."

I checked Lucie Arnaz's television appearances and it doesn't show Oprah on her credits.
