Default Laurel & Hardy's Influence

If not for Stan Laurel & Oliver Hardy, none of these pairings would probably have ever
happened ...

Bud Abbott & Lou Costello
Ralph Kramden & Ed Norton
Fred Flintstone & Barney Rubble
Gilligan & The Skipper

I'm sure there are other comedy teams influenced by them, but that's all I
can think at the moment. Any one else?

My memories of Laurel & Hardy are pretty limited. I always confuse them with Abbott & Costello. Which duo was in that movie with the life size wooden toy soldiers?

^Thanks Mikado! They used to show that movie around Christmas time when I was a little kid, but I haven't seen it in years.

In 1918, Oliver Hardy appeared in several Billy West Comedies as the "heavy."
West was a Charlie Chaplin imitator. I was watching one of those this morning
("His Day Out") and was struck by West's physical resemblance to Chaplin's
Little Tramp persona. I wonder: did Chaplin ever sue West for stealing his
material? (To be fair, West's character only LOOKED like Chaplin's; he lacked
the pathos and had a different personality. Still, there's a VERY strong resemblance.)
