Default Lucy Calls The President-1977

I don't remember this special at all and it was after Here's Lucy was cancelled. Was this the only special she did? It should be released on dvd imo.

IMO, anything with Lucy s/b released. Even her last series from the 80s, which was not up to her usual snuff. It's all nostalgic and sentimal, esp. to us Lucy fans.

Lucy did many specials, but Lucy Calls The President is extra special because it was the last time Lucille Ball and Vivian Vance were together on TV. Vance died in 1979.

For more information on all of Lucy's specials check out this website:

It was a great and very funny special, the last time ALL OF THEM were together, Lucy, Viv, Gale, as well as Mary Wickes and Mary Jane Croft. I forget if Lucy had ten or eleven specials but you're right, they should all be released so we could all see them again, i have bootleg copies of all of them, Paul Brownstein has the rights, he's hte man who released those 24 BEST OF eps of Here's Lucy. And i wouldn't say Here's Lucy was cancelled, Lucy had six years of product to sell and so she stopped to do specials instead.

Yes,I did see it,too. And I remember this classic line:Anyway,Lucy had a broken tooth or something, and talked funny to Pres,Carter's mother, and when she finished talking and said goodbye to Lucy and the gang(her husband, played by Ed Mac Mahon, and the gang,Vivian Vance,Gale Gordon,Mary Jane Croft and Mary Wickes),and the show ended with Mrs.Carter saying:"And they say WE talk funny!"

I love this special. I thought Viv's character was so funny.

I distinctly remember watching that special the night it aired 30 years ago (yikes!). Oddly, I remember being disappointed, thinking it was silly and corny. And I remember my mother remarking while it was on that she thought it was silly. She used that word. The following morning in class a friend of mine (who knew I was a Lucy fan) told me he watched had watched the special the night before and I felt embarrassed that he watched it. But he said he liked it, which kind of surprised me. In recent years I've seen it again several times and have found it fun and enjoyable. I'm not sure why I didn't enjoy it as a kid.

That was interesting, I have Lucy Goes To London. Come to think of it, I might have the other specials that came with the Lucy show complete series that I got from iOffer. I'll have to check.

I think we ALL thought it was sickeningly sweet as opposed to hilariously funny, all her shows were by then, they never let her character age or evolve properly, but you're right, seeing it now, it's just excellent for the nostalgia factor alone.
