Default Why do people look down on people who work at McDonald's, etc.

Why do people look down on persons who work at MacDonalds's or fast food places or Wallmart,K,art, etc.

Unskilled labor. Anybody can be hired to do the job. Turnover is high.

I wouldn't say I've ever known anybody within my circle of friends who actually "look down" on people who work there. However, everyone I know looks down on the job, itself. The position is truly horrendous. Get paid to make fat kids fatter... Way to make a difference in the world...

But, you've got to do what you've got to do. I'm just glad I've never had to work at a Mickey-Ds...

I never have. My first job was at a McDonalds. It taught me a lot about responsibility.

Me too. Mc Donalds was my first job also. McDonald's does not make kids fatter it's the parents that take them there. They do not have to order all of that fatty food they can have a salad if they want. People should take responsibility about what they eat and not blame the restaurant.

exactly. it normally takes excessive eating there to get fat anyway, doing it occasionally probably won't, but it depends on your metabolism. i've eaten fast food on a regular basis for most of my life and i've always been really skinny.

Well said.

And I don't really look down on them either. Aside from the fact that I know people who work or have worked at restaurants and stores, it may not be a glamorous or high-paying job, but it is also an honest day's work for honest pay and I truly respect that. Everyone's gotta start somewhere. I just hate it when some employees act snobbish or rude. That I prefer not to tolerate. It's nice to know not everyone who works in those areas are like that.

I look down on them if they are over 25. Working there as a teenager is accepted

I think some people just have no class and like to make themselves feel more important by making others feel bad. Some playground bullies just never grow up

I always try to treat those people who work retail and similar jobs with respect. I think the majority of them are decent, hardworking individuals who are just trying to earn a decent living. Overall, I think retail and restaurant workers have a lot more class than people like Britney Spears and Paris Hilton!

For nearly twenty years, I held a good-paying office job at the local hospital.
Then, suddenly I was laid off (and in just four years I could have retired, at
62). Relocating was not an option for me, and it took me over a year to find
any job. I considered myself very lucky, at age 59, to be hired by Wal-Mart,
the world's largest retail store. True, most of the other associates there are
younger than me; and a few are older than me. But, like someone here said:
it's honest work and nothing to be ashamed of. To quote John Wayne: "A
man's got to do what a man's got to do" [or a woman].

While we're on the subject of McDonalds, I have to tell this true story. On
one of Paul Harvey's radio broadcasts back in the 1970s, he read a news
item (I forget what city it was). The item was: " ... Burger King was robbed
last night. Police have arrested -- are you ready for this? -- Burger King was
robbed last night. Police have arrested .... 18-year-old Ronald McDonald."

Really? What if it's their choice to work retail? Also, what if they are actually the owner of that particular location? Hmm?

Ok maybe I should have said I wouldn't date anyone who is over 25 working at Mcdonald's

One of my earlier jobs was working as a cashier at a fast food place and eventually working my way up to night manager. It gave me responsibility, work ethics, the skill of overseeing a crew of employees, handling payroll, monies, etc. I have never put down anyone for doing an honest day's work regardless of what the job may be. And it is not unskilled labor. Working a cash register means having to learn to deal with the public, remembering keys, change counting, exchange monies, etc. Once you can handle a cash register, it can lead you to other jobs with the same skill. I started out working the register at my father's business and it was that skill that led me to other jobs and eventually leading me to the law field.

People who are handling food (whether it is fast food or a restaurant) means having to adhere to certain health codes. It also means having to deal with safety issues and proper handling of food and cookware. It is more than just flipping a patty.

Anyone who looks down on those who work at a job that doesn't require a college education is a fool.
