What's with the Elevator? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

It's come up in every episode now . . . the elevator is always broken. I'm gessing it's sort of an inside joke, because even though it appears to be broken, no one has ever mentioned. IMO, it's an easy and funny way to allow shots to take place on the stairs instead of always in the elevator, but now I'm wondering if they're ever going to fix it. I doubt 7 weeks with a broken elevator is possible.

I've been wondering about the elevator too. It seems to be some sort of running gag which I find hilarious but they should at least mention it sometime. You'd think they'd get sick and tired of walking up all those flights of stairs after a while or maybe they're just so used to it.

I think it was mentioned in 1.02 when Leonard was accepting Penny's parcel ... he told the delivery guy the elevator was broken so he would have to take it up the stairs.

But they never said why it was broken, or the reason for it. Of course we know it's broken, but it's never actually come up into conversation. You'd think they would have mentioned it in the Pilot, like when Penny moved in. I'm sure she was wondering why the elevator has been broken for over a month.
