One thing that has absolutely driven me nuts for almost 40 years of watching
the Brady Bunch, is Robert Reed's hands. For a Shakespearean actor, it is amazing how stiff and awkward he was in using his hands. He obviously didn't know what to do with them and apparently every director he worked with didn't bother to bring it to his attention. His hands were always on his hips or he was fiddling with his jacket (buttoning and unbuttoning), or even more distracting, placing a hand on his abdomen. Each thread only allows 7 screen caps, so I had to limit the examples. I am sure I could have come up with dozens more! |

As usual, a great catch, Madame X !
I know that I had sometimes noticed Reed doing that, and thinking that it was a bit of a strange gesture, but I didn't realize that it happened as often as it did. Great job pointing that out!

I didn't realize he did it so much, either. Wow...thanks again for posting the awesome screen captures, Stacy!

I've noticed that lately, too. Now that I'm perhaps a couple years older than Bob Reed was when he played Mike Brady, I see now that his actions are just plain fear that the camera can see his little paunch, which is ironic, because he was in absolutely GREAT f*cking shape.
Me? In addition to huffing and puffing on the treadmill, I try to work the camera from all the right angles. A great trick is to always have your photographer about a foot higher than you, whether you get down on your knees to pose or if you have the photographer stand on a chair, just do it. Double chins disappear, bellies vanish, big butts look small, ample chests emerge, bulging biceps pop and shoulders jut out as never before. |
