I'll have to go with Benson - it had a smaller cast so it was easier to get to know the characters and it had more of a subtle, dry humor that I appreciate. On the other hand, in Soap's last season, it had my man, Gregory Sierra, in the cast.

It's a no-brainer for me, if you'll look at my name.

However, that said, I do like Soap.

I liked "Benson"better than "Soap".Oh,by the way, does anyone remember that guy named Taylor, who was the governor's first aide and only lasted one season and came BEFORE Clayton?"Soap"could get pretty raunchy in my opinion, but "Benson"nevr did.

^ Yes, Taylor was a laugh riot. It was a scream watching him kick that bearskin rug (after he tripped over it) and squeezing into that itty bitty bathroom with Benson and Gov. Gatling. I'll miss him once the Season 2 DVD comes out, but I look forward to seeing Clayton as well.

I like your optimism, Monika. I think we should see Season 2 myself (seems S1 sales have been pretty good) but it's nice to get someone else's positive feedback on it.

I tried watching Soap one time while it was being aired on a local station late at night but I never could get interested in it. It was like Gilligan's Island but with out the island and Mary-Ann, although It is however a very funny sitcom. I just don't think it's on the same level as Benson and the Golden Girls. Although if they would have had Mary-Ann that would have helped out a lot she was so cute you know.

The thing about Soap (and I've mentioned this before), is how difficult it is to watch just one episode because each one is an ending to one storyline and a beginning to another. It would be like having a soap opera like General Hospital on DVD and trying to watch any given, random episode. I do have Soap on DVD, but when I watch it I have to watch a whole "chunk" of episodes. With Benson, it's nice to be able to just view the episodes you want without worrying that you missed something. There is some continuity in Benson, but not to a degree where you can't follow.

Soap, I loved Benson while he was on the show but the spinoff did nothing for me.

Soap by a mile. It was innovative and way ahead of its time, my only knock on it was the lack of a proper ending. I can watch Soap today and still be entertained by it. Benson, on the other hand, is just like most other 80's sitcoms, good for its time but totally unwatchable today. Which it too bad, because the character Benson on Soap was one of the best parts of that show.
