Will the Writer's Strike Unplug 'BTY'? - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Apparently, it looks more and more like a strike. Would a work stoppage kill the show? What I mean is, will viewers give up on it, if it is a prolonged strike?

I sure hope not!! This is a funny, classy, quality show - and it's too good to let a strike break its momentum.

That's the problem, a work stoppage would kill any, if not all momentum!

This strike does not bode well for TV in general. I'm really hoping there is no strike, but it doesn't look good. It seems all that will be on will be reality shows and I refuse to watch reality shows.

I only hope viewers will remember their shows when they come back. If it lasts long it will be like the whole season starting over again. I do belive in BTY and I think even if it momentum starts over, it will be enough to get things rolling again ratings wise with this great show.

I think it may have some affect on this show. But since the last original episode, the show is now kind of going in a direction, with a budding relationship between Chuck and Kelly. I just hope viewers remember about that, and tune in out of curiosity.

Hopefully, the situation gets resolved quickly.

Even if the fans go back to watching all their shows, the writer's will have to compress the show. If they end up not doing a month or more, they will have to get to where the show wants to go in much less episodes which could be like just throwing ideas right at us before the previous ideas had a chance to develop.

That isn't true, because BTY already got a 24-episode season pickup, so even if the show runs original episode through early summer, we'd still have to get all 24 episodes.

Unless they did with Grounded for Life a few years ago. For the first season, they began airing the show in midseason, but since it was doing pretty well, they picked it up for 20 episodes. Since they only aired 15 by the time the season was over in may, they just aired the last 5 during the second season.

Audience unlimited has posted 5 additional taping dates for BTY to the original 12 (pilot was shot in April) which brings the show to 18 episodes. The last date so far is January 29 which means that they're in pretty good shape should the strike last for more than two months.

The dates reflected for tapings does not guarantee the show will have new shows through the end of January. To my knowledge and some time in the bizz, they can only tape the shows that the contracts have been signed and sealed. For example, if they have already signed deals with the writers and all involved for the next 4 tapings, that is as far as it can go. Otherwise, the tapings will be cancelled. Make sense?

Yeah, it does make sense. Still hoping they're ahead of their game and have some extra scripts completed.

Such a bummer though. First the stress of the ratings, then the full series pick up and now this? TV used to be so easy now it's just

Wait, so if the strike goes on for a while, does that mean Back to You could finish the season in June or July instead of the normal May season finales?

I doubt that they'll expand the season into the summer. Some shows might have their orders cut. I hope it doesn't happen to BTY but I've seen networks change their mind and decrease orders before. If the show is renewed and they don't decrease the order they'll probably air them during season 2.

Likely if the strike goes into February and March or later then whatever the last episode is that is filmed will be the finale. So if they film 15, that would be it. I doubt you would see any scripted show start back up in April/May if the strike ends by then to finish up the 24 episodes since it'd be approaching when Season 2 would start filming. Full season orders mean nothing if you don't have scripts in a strike.

Let's just hope the strike is somehow short-lived, because it's going to suck for anything scripted otherwise.

Exactly what happened with Grounded for Life. They ordered 20 episodes for the first season, but only filmed 15, so they aired the other 5 during season 2.

Does anyone what FOX has done in a situation like this in the past? They could air it into summer, or they could cut the orders like others of you have said. I would rather see the show air into the summer if anything instead of having a shorter season.

I seriously doubt it'll run into the summer. If anything, it'll be a shorter season.
