I think "Witness' (Season 7) is the one where Sophia loses her glasses. As for the black bars on S7 DVD's, I forget what the actual reason was, but I know Buena Vista was/is sending out replacement discs for those who want them. You can find more details at http://www.thegoldengirls.co.uk/.

I'm using this thread as my question is close enough, and isn't worth starting a new thread of my own.

I have seasons 1,2,3, & 4 on dvd.
Seasons 1, 2, 3 are all packaged the same way in a kinda fold out display, with a cardboard slip cover. I probably didn't describe that very well, but if you have the same thing, you'll know what I mean.
When I ordered season 4 (and this is more of a wonder, than a grumble), it's in a 'normal' plastic dvd case. There's nothing wrong with it, I just expected it to have the 'look' of season 1,2,3.
Also, seasons 1,2,3 have a little paper menu insert, of all the episode titles. Season 4 does not.
It's a bit daft to wanna know, but does anyone know the titles of each episode for season 4 (so that I can type it up, print it out, and stick it inside the dvd case, 'cause I'm nerdy like that) ?!

I have all 7 seasons, and all 7 are packaged the way you describe seasons 1-3. I wonder if the series' was re-released, and you have updated packaging for season 4.

For the episode where Sophia loses her glasses, I think you are referring to the episode when Rose was dating the Cheese Man and he was looking for Miles. Sophia finally came home, she told Dorothy about losing her glasses. Dorothy asked Sophia why she didn't call home for someone to go pick her up. Sophia responded that when she tried to put a quarter in to call home, but a condom would pop out. She gave Dorothy a lifetime supply. Barbara, the cop, from Empty Nest was helping Sophia find her glasses. Sophia even referenced for Barbara to put steroid crazed cops on the job and get one for Blanche, lol. When Barbara found Sophia's glasses; Dreyfus was the culprit, Sophia recognized the Cheese Man.

There was an episode, Bringing up baby, when Sophia lost her glasses, but that was not when Sophia knocked on the front door asking if this was here address.
