Default Example of a Mother doing a Poor Job in making her Son feel Better

I was telling my mom recently I don't feel like talking to anyone because I'm tired of not having anyone at my age. Her respnse was

"Well it's possible it can take until you are 40 or 41 to find the right person."

NOW WHO IN THE HELL WANTS TO HEAR THAT WHEN I HAD ALREADY SAID THAT BEING SINGLE AT 32 IS DEPRESSING???

What I think your mom is telling you, is finding that person you want to spend the rest of your life with, IS WORTH WAITING FOR. That person won't come by easy. That special person will eventually come along.

As for your comment, "Does my mother even think before she speaks?" I can't help it, but that is what you do sometimes on here, you post before you think.

Saying that she will eventually come would have sounded much better. But to say it may take until I'm 40 was such a stupid statement, if i'm down about being single at 32 what do u think I will be at 40?-lol

I think you have enough common sense to know that day will come, regardless of who tells you what. I think you are like me, you vent your feelings and don't want to hear any negativity. If anything, I just love to vent, I don't need feedback. Give your mom a break, this comment surely doesn't take away from the years she put up with you.

I'm I the only one who's shocked that Salmon said that his mother has no parenting skills?? Maybe it was a bad choice of words

I think that your mother was just saying that by the time you're 40 you will probably meet a woman who know who she is as a person, who's mature and who just basically has her sh*t together. And hopefully you will also.

I was going to post something totally different but I held my tongue. So I just hope that, deep down in the depths of his cerebral lobes that he knows that, that was a HUGE disrespectful thing to say.

Because I expect someone her age to know what to say out of her mouth when her son is mad about something. You see that Irene would have not said that to one of her children if they were upset about how difficult it is to find the right person.

But Solomon, just because your mom said something that was unsettling to you, doesn't make her a bad mom or lacking in parental skills. I am far from perfect, I make mistakes, we all do. No one is perfect. I just stated that I can understand what it is like to want to vent sometimes and not want to hear negative feedback. I get upset with people who do that, but that doesn't make them bad people or lacking. Just a lapse in judgment for a moment. You should be lucky to have a mom who cares.
