David Duchovny told Tim Goodman of the San Francisco Chronicle he’s doing the dubbing and reshooting necessary to make “Californication” safe for syndication, but he’s not in favor of doing it at all. The Showtime series, which wraps its first season on Monday, is full of sex and swearing.

“We’re sanitizing it, and it makes no sense at all,” Duchovny said. “ ‘The Sopranos’ was awful like that, and we’ll be worse.”

Duchovny did the interview Monday by phone while watching the news. The Southern California fires were getting close to his home. He noted the irony that he’s also in the new movie “Things We Lost in the Fire.”

“But there’s bad stuff everywhere,” he said. “Everybody’s safe.”

it won't be good anymore if they "sanitize" it.
