Default Travis Wade Duncan

Well, I was researching, I found Travis Wade Duncan was captured in 1994, he was never charged for the murder of that camper, he pled guilty to a variety of charges and was sentenced to 20 years in prison, he was paroled in the fall of 2002 after serving 8 years.

Thanks for that info. I always wondered what happened to him. I do think 8 years is not near enough considering he went on a cross country crime spree and no doubt killed that innocent camper. Lets just hope he's reformed since he's now free to walk the streets.

The bit about the missing/killed camper never made it to the Lifetime version of this story I'm guessing?

As I recall, the original segment itself was never shown on Lifetime, but the update segment was. The update makes no mention of the murdered camper (either on Lifetime or NBC, from what I remember).

I'm not sure if the part about the camper ever made it to Lifetime. I just rewatched my copy and it says that a month after Duncan went missing in the woods they found the badly decomposed body of a camper who had been shot in the head. They said this camper went missing around the same time Duncan would have fled into the woods and police theorize he killed the camper and then escaped in the man's truck. My guess is there wasn't enough evidence to prove that Duncan killed him.

Yes I agree Crystaldawn, obviously, while it is likely that Duncan murdered that camper so he could steal his truck to escape, Duncan never admitted killing him and they never had enough evidence to prove he did it so he was never charged. He did get parole, he was sentenced to 20 years in prison on various charges but became eligible for parole after serving a fraction of that and he was paroled after serving 8 years.

Never saw this case until today on Prime. Oddly, the verbal update makes no mention of the camper but the text update says that police no longer suspect he had any involvement with the camper's death. The weirdest part of this story is why exactly Duncan would have agreed to help bust these other prisoners out. Duncan was out on bail, and was only accused of stealing guns from the owner of the garage where he worked. He claims that he bought them from someone else, and had no idea they were stolen. At best, he would've gotten a slap on the wrist had he simply went to trial. I can't wrap my head around as to why he would agree to bust the dangerous criminals out, and then go on a cross state chase that could have resulted in multiple deaths.

Yep, he has to be one of the biggest idiots ever on the show-the footage of him post arrest looks like he isn't very smart or mentally impaired. Out on bail for something he likely would have got a fine & a suspended sentence for & he decides to hold up the jail at gunpoint, break out a murderer & another guy, fires at the cops etc & ends up on the run looking over his shoulder for 2 years & then has to serve 8 years of a 20 year sentence.

Not sure about the camper-it is possible he was hit during the firefight between them & the cops, it is possible he was murdered by Duncan, but just as possible he fell victim to another murderer beforehand.

Yep, the other one like that was the guys who ambushed the cops in the late 1990's before killing themselves.

I also just watched this case for the first time. I agree with you that it was mind boggling why he would do what he did, but I chock it up to the fact that he was just an idiot.
