This has bugged me for the longest time...and I do mean A LONG TIME.

I am so glad I have this forum to ask you all and not feel stupid.

In the scene towards the end where Ricky has a list of words that he needs to sing a song lyric to using those words, while Lucy stands in the circle and gets bombarded with coffee, honey and the basket. Anyhoo, he has this list of words, so why was he stuck on the word PIE? Isn't it WRITTEN ON THE LIST? He has the word PIE listed there, therefore he came up with the song lyric "Let's have another piece of ________." First of all, being a musician/singer, I cannot believe he couldn't remember that word and secondly, WOULDN'T IT BE ON THE LIST HE WAS HOLDING?

I always thought he did that on purpose so Lucy wouldn't win the trip.

I always thought that he had to sing the missing word. Like fill in the blank

I don't remember this episode, it would have been great if the cast got to go to Hawaii to film there.

I think the whole point of him not using the word "pie" was to keep lucy from winning the trip, after she did fib her way on to the show(if im thinking correctly this is the one where lucy plays fred and ethels mother, for the "love your neighbor" show) and he told her she couldn't go in the first place.

Really??? So all these years I have been wrong? I always thought Ricky was just "dumb". I can't see why he would do that since it would allow a free trip to Hawaii, it wouldn't cost him anything. I am sooooo confused now.

The list in his hand has the words listed there, so I find it crazy that he would try and pull off a trick like that when it was unlikely.

No, I wouldn't say you're wrong. You ask a very good question. I have always just assumed Ricky was doing that on purpose. But I could be wrong. Maybe Ricky really was just dumb or nervous or confused.

He knew exactly what he was doing and purposely ruined her chance to win the trip. He did know what the word was from the list. I think you are all correct!

I would see that moment when he is smirking/smiling but I always chalked it up to some embarrassment of not knowing the word "pie". EVEN THOUGH IT IS WRITTEN ON THAT DAMN PAPER!

When I watched that scene again, I could tell Ricky was purposely stalling. He didn't have that uncomfortable look on his face like on the quiz show, he had that look when he is trying to keep from laughing at Lucy. And yes, he chose the song to sing because it contained the word "pie" from the list!

Another interesting note: At the part where Freddie Fillmore is explaining the rules to Ricky, watch Ricky. He is smiling, smirking and even winks at Freddie. It seems he had a plan for sabotage from the beginning. He put Lucy through all that and then added the final blow of not uttering the word "pie." I guess he wanted to make sure Lucy didn't gain a free trip under false pretenses. It kind of seemed like a cruel way to teach Lucy a lesson.
