Default Things you did not know about Judith Sheindlin (Judge Judy)

First of all check out http://judgejudyisascam.com/

1.Is currently not a judge and has not been one for 11 years.

2.Serves as an arbitrator(person to settle disputes)on her television show

She makes 30 million dollars a year to lie to everywhere her show is aired

4.Has no legal power whatsoever

5.Her show's production company(Big Ticket productions)pays all judgements made by the former judge

some of her litigants are coached by the producers on what to say and do.

her audience is made of paid hollywood actors.

The cases on Judge Judy are actual small-claims court cases, and Sheindlin operates according to the principles of the American legal system. She conducts her court in a manner similar to U.S. appellate courts and many international courts, taking on a more inquisitorial fashion. There are no lawyers present and participants defend themselves, which is standard in a small claims court. The people who appear on her show sign a waiver agreeing that arbitration in her court is final and cannot be pursued elsewhere unless she dismisses the case without prejudice. The award for each judgment is paid by the producers of the show from a fund reserved for each case. The remainder of the fund is split between the parties for a particular case.

As for the production company paying the "lawsuits". That is true abt any judge show. It says so at the end of the credits. IT IS RIGHT THERE FOR ALL TO SEE. I don't see what scam people think she is committing. Sounds like pure Judge Judy hate.

Sometimes The show does make up lawsuits. They did this in 1999 with The hollywood prostitute Divine Brown(She was caught with Hugh Grant). They aren't all real cases. The show follows absoloutley no state laws. Not even the arbitration law unless the litigants live in the state of California. She is not currently a real judge,She has no legal power. There's even a quote from her on imdb stating that the law is followed in her "Fake" courtroom than it is in an actual courtroom which isn't even near the truth I advise everyone to read the website that's in my signature and in the original post of my thread. She doesn't have experience with small claims court all she ever did as a judge was work with Juvenille delinquents(spelling) and familys.

I don't think anyone will bother to read that when it is plain and simple it is merely arbitration aka small claims court. She applies the laws according to the state in which the tort took place. Oh by the way, Tort means "civil wrong". Any judge who is retired can do arbitration for a tort case or even state cases such as divorce (celebs do this) or for matters such as workman's compensation cases, unemployment cases, etc. As long as both sides agree in a written statement, then it can continue, as it does for Judge Judy's cases. Each side signs an agreement that they know whatever she rules, IS BINDING.

I think that some people should go to the website and read the Star Magazine article.I tried to add it as an attachment but it said that it exceeds the forums limit.the website and interviews all are coming from people who've done the show. One couple was told by a producer that judge judy likes it when people interupt.

Star Magazine is a tabloid magazine, isn't it? I don't believe half the things they say.

The Star magazine????? Good source.
Yeah, a good legal magazine.

I have a friend who appeared on People's Court (with the original judge, not the one that is there now) and he told me how they had to agree to let this RETIRED JUDGE be the one to decide their case, if they didn't sign the agreement, then they are free to have their cases heard in their area in small claims court. They find the people by going through the various small claims that are filed in various counties. They call them up (as they did with my friend) and asked him if he didn't mind his case being heard on People's Court. He obliged, sign the documents and won his case. He got his money and was not coached in any way. If anything, he was told to behave the way one is expected to behave in any courtroom, you respect and obey the judge and tell the truth.

You would think this would be all over the news if it was true. It would be a major scandal and she's been on the air longer than any of these other current court shows.

Bingo! Exactly.

Yeah, Judge Judy in the same magazine as Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears...yeah, real scandal.

People always have to knock the successful.
