What would be UM's ideal network?

I thought this might be interesting. I voted for Sleuth, as Sleuth and mysteries tend to go together.

I voted for A&E because it was the best available choice for the poll.

However, I'd like to see it on a network with even wider appeal. A&E wouldn't be bad, but it would be great to get back on regular network TV. Since that's not possible, then I like A&E, TNT, or CourtTV.

I don't get (nor have I heard of) Sleuth or Chiller TV so I'm not sure where/how they are offered.

Since my dream of seeing UM back on NBC probably won't happen, I think A&E would be a nice fit.

I Voted for Lifetime,but A&E would be good too. I would just like to see UM on Any channel.

A&E was among several cable networks that were interested in acquiring UM in 2000, when there were plans to revive the show as a first-run cable series. It would have been a logical choice for UM, since A&E was airing true-crime shows at the time.

But now, seven years later, that genre is being phased out of A&E's programming lineup.

That's a good point, Kane. A&E has changed from the "true crime" and investigative channel to the wacky reality TV haven. They still have some crime-type stuff but more and more trashy reality stuff.

Kind of funny since they were orginally "Arts and Entertainment" and showed lots of concerts and classical music performances. That's a long way from "Growing Up Gotti" and "King of Cars."

Yeah, I wanted to include more poll options, but 4's the limit.

I agree with you in a way about NBC, but given how crappy they treated it when it was still pulling good ratings makes me reluctant to endorse them. Same thing for CBS and Lifetime. Cable/satellite might be the better route because I get sick of how the Big 4 networks treat their programs.

I agree. Normal networks are totally "flavor of the week" nowadays. Great shows don't mean a thing anymore, it seems like.

I figured your poll options were limited. I'd like to see it be on some network that is on basic cable so it can be seen in more places. And all I have is basic cable.

I feel the same as you. In this day and age, cable is a better outlet for UM than any of the prime time networks. Besides, times have changed too much in recent years for the show to be of any use for the "Big 4."

Here's a hypothetical scenerio: One of the primetime networks (e.g., ABC, Fox, ABC, or CBS) revives UM. The show garners respectable (or medium-sized) Nielsen ratings, but the network decides that it is not good enough. A few weeks later, the network cancels UM.

My hypothesis is a reflection of what goes on in the television business today. There used to be a time where a show had a weak start in the ratings, but was given a chance to grow (it happened with Cheers, The X-Files, Seinfeld, and The Dick Van Dyke Show). But nowadays, the primetime networks are painfully quick on the trigger to cancel a series that pulls in ratings that are not satisfactory enough for them, even if the ratings are survivable.

Sleuth would be my choice because it would fit in well with their type of programming plus it is owned by NBC so we could get some NBC versions of UM shown and not the heavily edited Lifetime ones.
