Post The Brown Derby Hollywood Episode

Does anyone know if they filmed inside the Brown Derby or if it was on a set? I read that the original Brown Derby closed its doors and was sold in the late 80's or mid 90's. The Derby moved and is located as part of a mall a block away from the original site. I was outraged at this, because it's a part of Hollywood's history. Seems like the city could have declared it a historical site and at least found a new place for it, they could have added the newer stars to its walls. I'll never get to eat there it's really a shame.

No, they didn't film inside the Brown Derby. This was filmed on a set in their studio in front of a live audience.

You are right, they did demolish the building, FOR A DAMN PARKING NO LESS!!!!!! Bastards!

I have a book and it talks abt all the old buildings and the status of those famous sites. Brown Derby is one of those mentioned.

That scene where Lucy is eating spaghetti always makes me hungry. That spaghetti looks so damn good.

If you look closely when the waiter is passing by William Holden's table, he never touches Lucy, it is very quick how he just happens to dump the food on Mr. Holden. They made it appear because Lucy ran into the waiter, that is how he tripped and dropped the food. Just look very carefully and you will see how well that scene was done.

Lots of the old Hollywood landmarks are gone or will be going in the future. The old KTTV Metromedia lot where many 70s and 80s sitcoms were taped was demolished. The old CBS radio and TV studios on Sunset Blvd (I think Lucy and Jack Benny did their radio shows there) is vacant and rumored to be torn down and become a Costco. The KTLA Tribune Studios lot where many shows were produced is for sale and its future is uncertain. The latest is NBC will be moving out of "Beautiful Downtown Burbank" by 2011.

It's a shame that there is no effort to preserve these historic buildings

On a brighter note, the L.A. City Council recently named a corner of Melrose Avenue near the Paramount pictures lot "I Love Lucy Square": http://cbs2.com/topstories/local_story_255142009.html

I love how in later episodes the story morphed into Lucy threw a pie at Bill Holden!

That NBC facility is HUGE! Are they completely vacating from there? Where are they going, and is there any word on who will take over all those NBC studios?

For real. Wasn't that strange? She never did no such thing. Poor Lucy. That followed her all the way to Paris.

A lot of old Hollywood/Los Angeles has sadly become one big parking lot. As I visit L.A. for whatever reason, you see more and more construction AND DESTRUCTION taking place. Back in the 70's, there was really no one screaming out for preservation, which is a shame because once you demolish, you can't go back and preserve.

Exactly. This country needs to learn to respect and value it's history.

The studios Charlie Chaplin built are still standing...they filmed part of the bio movie there...but, speaking of the Brown Derby, how about a thread of ALL those crazy old Hollywood roadside attractions like the derby and Tail o the pup...How about it, Irene?

Oooh, that would give me something to do here. I have my little Hollywood book, I can put that to use and do that here later. I have to pick up my daughter from work at 1pm (p.s.t.) so when I return, I can do that. Great idea!

I'm sorry you feel bad, but at least it's a good excuse to spend the day watching Lucy! At least it will get your mind off of what ails you for a little bit. I hope you feel better soon.
