Saturday Night Live sketches about The Mary Tyler Moore Show - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I know of two times that "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" was spoofed on "Saturday Night Live." One was in the 2nd season and it was a sketch about Ted Baxter killing Mary Richards. Steve Martin was Ted, Laraine Newman was Mary (no lines because she was dead), Dan Aykroyd was Murray, Gilda Radner was Rhoda, John Belushi was Lou Grant, and Jane Curtin was Sue Ann. In the 10th season, there was a sketch in which Lou Grant attempts to rescue Mary Richards from living her life in syndicated reruns of "The Mary Tyler Moore Show." Mary Gross was Mary, Ed Asner was Lou (Ed was the host), Christopher Guest was Murray, Billy Crystal was Ted, Pamela Stephenson was Georgette, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus was Rhoda. Does anyone else know of any other times The Mary Tyler Moore Show" was spoofed on Saturday Night Live?

I never knew about this - but I can totally see Steve Martin as Ted Baxter. If they ever did a MTM movie (which I hope they never do!), he'd be a perfect Ted.

I've seen the second skit and it was funny! If I remember rightly, they did a good job of re-creating Mary's second apartment. Slighty OT, but when Mary hosted SNL, they did a skit based on The Dick Van Dyke Show, which was also well done.

Oooh! I wished I had seen these. Gilda as Rhoda must have been a riot. God what a brilliant comedienne.
